Good job to the idiot parents of the young girls who were out on the road like morons. Probably cost this guy his life or at the very least a return to a normal life. Way to go dumb@$$es.

He must've been going pretty fast to have gone into a coma after falling off. The Trek 2300 is a speed bike - last I checked. So he could've been going as fast as ~35mph...all w/o a helmet.

If he would have been paying attention the helmet use would not have been an issue. As far as the girls in the street - just goes to show you can't fix stupid. I do hope he makes a speedy and full recovery though.

No actually "Life is Dangerous" Pay attention to your surroundings - a helmet wouldn't have helped him had it been a car backing out of a driveway.

I'm not saying that there should be a law requiring helmet use, but there are to many unknowns when road biking for me personally not to wear one every time I go out for a ride.

I can understand people riding on bike trails not doing it because there's less risk. However, riding fast without a helmet on a road with cars, pedestrians, potholes, other cyclists to deal with is taking your life into your own hands.

A helmet isn't going to make you invincible, but it probably could have protected this guy.

Hopefully he recovers quickly, and if so learns from his mistake.
