True, but we need to look at who are some of the main recipients of care at HCMC. Gun shot home-boys, Illegalls looking for a asprin. I will not lump the unemployed in here simply because they at lease had a job once, better than most that use HCMC. Good luck with your budgets problems, it's only going to get worse before it gets better.

WAHH WAHH !!
I think what you are getting at is this, the Governor is not going to make the tax payers pick up the tab for every schmuk that shows up at MNs doorstep with no money,no health care and no job and I would agree. All these people who show up here for our generous (give aways) benefits are potential votes for the Left and we are sick and tired of paying for it.

I've got an idea! Pay a $1000 bounty to HCMC for every illegal alien they turn in to INS that has come there expecting free treatment. The bounty account could really add up over time I would think.

I don't think making cuts is going to stop people from showing up. If someone has a heart attack, do you turn them away from the hospital and let them die? What if it were you?

Grow up people. We are in extreme economic times and Pawlenty's hands are tied on this. It is as much Pawlenty's fault as it is mine.

Like my little cousin who was sent there after being hit by a car in Anoka because it has the trauma care??? Her parents are both working, this was the best place in the area to be taken. Know something about the hospital before you start spouting your hate.

Oh no the world is ending. Please..... Spending in this state has been out of control for a long time. It's time to cut the budget and cut it deep. Get it back in line to where it should be. I've said it many of times. If the State would get rid of all the bs we spend money on, they would have all kinds of money to spend on the programs we need in this state. When the wealth of every family is in decline, now is not the time to be taking more from the people taht are still working. That will just make the recession even that more worse. For every dollar more the state takes thats one less dollar that could be spent creating jobs.

I know tax the rich. They got money. That sounds all good and dandy until you realize that is just secret code to raise taxes on the middle class. For every Tax increase they put on the rich. The politicians just create that many more loopholes for them to get out of paying more and it trickles down to the middle class where we get stuck with the bill.

Let's keep pumping money into JOBZ while existing businesses cut workers. Great idea.

Sounds like they are cutting anywhere between 10 and 20 jobs. Not that these people and their jobs are not important but why say up to 100 jobs are being lost when really it's just that they are not growing?

They just need to charge extra for stabbings, and gun shot wounds. That would balance the budget in know time with all the gang members RT allows in the city to live and prosper.

He's spot on.

HCMC is a very good tertiary trauma hospital, but the main "clientele" for the most part are uninsured and on the states dime. I know, I used to bring patients there all the time.

Going to the H.C.MC. emerg. room is like taking a trip to a dungeon. First, you have to wait and wait while the employees sit on the computer. Second, you get to mingle with all the welfare users and crooks who use the hospital as a place to hang.

HCMC is cutting jobs and blaming Pawlenty because of his as of yet unannouced budget cuts in Health and Human Services. First, Does HCMC really think Pawlenty is going to get his way completely when it comes to balancing the budget? LP is the head guy in the Senate and he represents MPLS. surely there will be some compromise. This is a PR ploy, and a very obvious one at that, to get some sympathy and public opinion on their side. But Folks, when H & H takes up a high percentage of the budget, it becomes an easy target when time get bad. Should have saved that surplus huh Larry? Karen?

No one said they were shutting the doors, they will still offer care, and I doubt they will turn people away, they still will be getting govt.$$ after all. Putting a freeze on tech budgets is not turning away a trauma patient.

But to agree with other posters here, the most frequent mention of HCMC on the local news is because gunshot victims are brought there. Usually these people have no insurance and no intention of paying the bill.

These cuts need to be made. I think Pawlenty is doing a great job, now if he could only cut the welfare and the free heath care in this state!! Minnesota would not be in nearly the trouble we are in now. We area magnet state for welfare. I am a single mom and pay for health care, I do not need my taxes to go up for someone home on welfare that doesn't try to do get off of it and be on their own!!!
