I understand that their are problem employees everywhere but bus drivers do not get the appreciation they deserve. I feel for the families that were personally affected by this crash. I am also in no way excusing anyone's behavior. I'm merely stating that our bus drivers have to put up with A LOT. I've only been off the school bus for 5 years and the majority of the students on the bus have no respect for the driver. Not only do they have to deal with unruly students but tail-gaters, angry parents, and if you've ever been on N. Main street when a bus is trying to unload children at ABC daycare... late pick-up's. Every day 2-3 buses wait outside honking their horn for 3+ minutes.

I don't know anyone personally who drives a bus except for Anna (Ella), but Thank you for contributing to our community!

Why is it when a bus has a wreck, everyone wants to jump that it is the drivers fault. Why is it they never say something about how great of a driver the person was to stop an injury or worse a fatality. Why is it everyone thinks just anyone could drive a bus? Do they realize that we get up at 5am, check the bus for problems daily, and leave most days before they sun is even up to pick your precious loved ones up safely? Why is that most people don't realize drivers like her and myself lay our own lives on the line two to three times a day. SBreezy is right about the disrespect, the parents attitudes, the kids being unrulely, but what about the danger. We drive in ice, snow and rain. I really don't think most people know what its like to be like me and have 60+ kids behind me in those conditions. We are constantly in training to continue to keep your children safe. A nice thank you, pat on the back or even a note of encouragement would be nice. Instead, what we get is constant criticism about our driving skills and mentality. So please, before you all go blasting the driver, think of how you all acted on your bus. Think if you could drive when that going on behind you.

I think it it is terrible the way bus drivers get abused by drivers, parents and kids. How many times does a bus get cut off so the driver of the car won't be behind the bus? Does anyone know what a stop-arm flashing mean? And by law a bus cannot turn right on red. Please be considerate of the busses on the road it could have your family member on it or a friends child and I know you would not want them in danger.

I have 2 kids on two different buses. Both of the drivers are top notch. I am tired of the lack of respect the districts bus drivers get. Pat and Mr. Wayne are the best. I trust them daily with my precious cargo.

Wow, this could have been written about police officers as well. I do have a question though. Why do buses let kids off on every block of a street, like Longview, backing traffic up something awful? Back in my day we had to walk a few blocks to the stop, not get let off right in front of our house.

It is a state law that children only walk so far if at all possible. We are technically supposed to stop at every light post or something like that. The only exception to this is usually like if it is a court that a bus can not turn around in. A good driver will put your kids safety before anything. Like on my route, I do not like to make my younger children walk more than 5 doors down or to send one child down a road alone. It means a greater chance something may happen. So next time just remember it is for their safety.

All I have to say is that for a man that is not too sharp, he sure never has had any wrecks. He is sick twice this year and twice he has come back to a wrecked bus. And he's not the sharp one. Pick on some driver that doesn't give a care in the world about his kids.

Who Cares really? All that matters is that no one got hurt. What is important is that our kids are safe!

Obviously you keep pretty tight tabs on the jessamine county bus drivers if you know when each driver is sick unless you work there. Not to mention you are extremely defensive about the whole thing I wonder what that means?

I don't know what pay it would take to get me to drive a school bus. With todays unruly kids & the parents that are in denial & the laws that "protect" the students.(Sheild the kids & parents is more accurate) Out of 50-60 kids on a bus, one to four can run the bus because of BS parents & regulations. These disruptiive kids can & do cause all kind of problems. I'm not saying that they were an issue this time but the odds come around sooner or later

I am not being defensive, I am glad you like the old driver. New drivers go through a lot of training before they are released. The woman driving bus 26 that day is an excellent driver and she really cares about the kids. Please everyone with children on busses teach your children to sit in there seats at all times and to keep their voices down so the driver is not distracted. Safety is the issue and it would be helpful if the parents would help teach saftey on the school bus.
