Mother of a junkie

As a parent of a currently sober adult heroin needle junkie and opiate addict. I'm concerned about how to pay for her funeral. I know the day is coming. He is grown, single with children. He has no life insurance, so I thought about getting life insurance on him and I will pay the monthly premium. BUT I don't think the life insurance would even pay out if he were to die of an overdose.

Life insurance considers drug overdose to be sucicide... I know someone whose mother took out a million dollar policy, greedy hag, and then when I broke it to her she almost seemed disappointed.... to me thats sicker than the damn addict. Trying to make $$ of their disease and death....

I disagree if my child was an addict and I already done everything with in my power to help him/ her and their was nothing else I could do I would take out a life insurance policy on them why not? Is it fair for them to kill them self by being a junkie leaving their loved ones behind trying to figure out how they will pay for the funeral. Shouldn't they quite being selfish and realize what a financial bind they will leave us in I believe their is nothing wrong with making sure when your child dies especially if you know that it will happen that you will have what you need to give them a nice funeral!

Well their knee deep in their disease you see, so no their worries do not consist of how they hurt the ones they love, while thats no excuse, its the truth of the matter.

Either way you look at it, I can tell you life insurance companies will not pay for suicide sooooo basically getting the insurance would do no good if your expecting them to kick the bucket by overdose, self inflicted death, doesn't get paid for.

I pray for your loved one, its a horrible place to be and hopefully they stay sober! Best of luck to ya!

There are probably 3000 plus addicts in jessamine county. Pills or heroin same difference. The od can be reversed if its caught quick enough.

Actually (and unfortunately I know this) whether or not a particular life insurance policy pays is dependable upon the policy...some state until after the first year...
And depending on the coroner's report/death certificate...unless it states suicide..most life insurances will pay. Most are actually listed as accidental overdose..so yeah if you are struggling with this in your family...and can find someone to write it..buy it especially if minor children are involved!

Who cares there is no hope for junkies . There is a whole generation of them it will take a while but they will die out. We just have to wait them out. Till then guard your stuff and don't enable them.

This is so true and I understand why they do what they do. I also agree that's no excuse for their actions. It makes me sick to my stomach when I think of it all. But this is my child and I'm just trying to prepare for the future. I am going to get life insurance just for peace of mind. I am in no way trying to get rich from my child's death. I simply am trying to watch out for my Grandchildren. This goes for everyone really, because none of us know when our time is up or when we may have to bury a child.

Thank you for your advice. I do celebrate his sobriety everyday that he's sober. I also pray for him everyday. But I must face reality and be prepared. Not to get rich but for financial stability. Funeral's are very expensive and I don't have ten thousand dollars to hand to someone. I would have to make payments to them. Do you know how long monthly payments would take to pay off a debt of this magnitude? If the funeral home will work with you on a payment plan. Most funeral home will not accept monthly payments.
