I just got on the Jessamine Journal website and you now have to pay to view it. You get 5 page views per month. They are crazy if they think I will pay that..I quit buying the paper because it is overpriced anyway. Good luck with that..

You two complain about The Jessamine Journal, which we all have the right to do.
But you just said yourself that you don't buy the paper anyway so you're not hurting the already-fund-less and financially bleeding Journal. You don't support the reporters who look into the issues of the county. So you have nothing to take away by your whining.
One of you can't even spell - "reding,"
It's "reading." So you probably can't "red" the paper.
Well, you have every right not to "red" The Jessamine Journal. but you won't find out information about your county in the Herald-Leader (btw, they are going to a pay website too).
But does the Lexington Herald-Leader cover East and West games in-depth? Are they following the planning and zoning corruption that is crippling the county? Are they following sexual-harrasment claim in the EMS and E911 departments? It the Lexington paper following which TV and Internet cable franchise will be apart of the city?
No.
Truth is, they do it because they're your under-paid advocate… the people's advocate. Reporters make less than a check-out employee at Kroger. But they do it anyway.
But like I said, you don't buy the paper anyway, so you not getting the online doesn't hurt them at all.

You are correct, I do have a right to complain. I am. I do not buy the paper because it is overpriced for what the consumer/reader receives. It seems like it is a glorified pamphlet. I say the same thing about the Lexington Herald Leader. The fact that you are so upset about this makes me wonder why you care so much about our opinions. You even went out of your way to point out spelling errors. I am so sorry that the people that work the paper are "under-paid advocates" as you pointed out. If they make less than the people at Krogers, that is their problem. No one asked them to go into that field of work.
Get over yourself, everyone has a right to feel and say what they want. If you don't like it..don't read it. Just like I will be doing about the Jessamine Journal..
They are pricing themselves right out of business.

Oh, please, jessamine watchdog. We ALL know you are one of those who works for the piece of crap paper. I just wonder why SOMEONE--ANYONE has not started a VIABLE newspaper in this town. It certainly would NOT take much to outdo this one. And, who gives a rip about the sports section? It's just like who gives a rip about the sports section in the Lexington Herald Liberal? And, if you want to know what REALLY goes on in this town, you will NEVER read about it in print. Just ask around....almost ANYONE can tell you what you want to know, really.

There is much more to life AND to a community than sports.(All you mommies and daddies who have kiddies in sports, please spare me the rhetoric of how your child has grown into a mature adult by participating in sports here in JC.)

And, the paper goes hand in hand with the poor school system here in this county. KIDS CANNOT READ, WRITE OR DO MATH PROBLEMS, but they SURE know how to type on a computer or a cell phone, don't they? No wonder KY ranks last or near last in anything to do with Education.

And, on ANY given day. Mr or Ms. Watchdog, there are NUMEROUS spelling and punctuation errors in this "award winning" (MUST NOT HAVE BEEN ANY COMPETITION) newspaper. Take a challenge, will ya? Take a RED INK PEN and let me see you get through PAGE 1 without finding MANY spelling, typing and punctuation errors. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. I did that very thing once, sent the CORRECTED copy to the editor and NEVER got a note or anything from the pompous Ass that he is.(Different than the one now...don't know this guy, don't want to know this guy.)

Anyway, folks, unless SOMEONE comes in here and starts a successful, bonafide newspaper, we are doomed to using the JJ for the bottoms of bird feeders, dog kennels and rolls for fire starters.

I agree, the only part of the paper I ever read is the police reports and that is only occasionally. I don't find much else of interest in there. I will watch the news on TV and get much more valuable information.I had a class last semester and we were suppose to keep a weekly journal on news reports from our hometown. I had to get special permission to use a newspaper from a different county because ours was so bad. It is not worth paying for!

Not sure why some other paper has not come in here and either bought them out or started another one. All the coverage the schools get for sports, and most of the teams are crap. Hell, u would think we are the feeder system into UK or U of L. Damn waste of our money and our time to read this rag, as it is a disgrace and laughable, at best.

When they win awards, there must never be any competition and in today's "feel good" society, that has to be the only reason they win--NO COMPETITION and the awards have to go to whomever enters the divisions.

Ridiculous and all new is old news, since it is a crappy, weekly piece of crap. not even good enough to use as birdcage liners.

Watchdog, I find your use of the word Advocate quite appropriate. But the Jessamine Journal is not our underpaid advocate, nor is it the peoples' advocate. It is the Nicholasville Advocate-Messenger, right? The Journal (or the Jessamine Joke as it is more commonly known) has been sliding downhill for years, and the slope got a lot slippier in the time since it was bought out by Schurz Communications Inc.
The Jessamine Journal is not the little guy, and it's not our local paper, it's just a tiny little cog in a great big media machine. If you're dissatisfied with your paycheck, take it up with the executives at Schurz Communications; I don't think they're struggling. After all, the company owns 4 cable/media companies, a printing division, 18 newspapers, 15 radio stations and 9 television stations.
I grew up on the Jessamine Journal back in the days when Ed Easterly was running things, and hauling papers all over town in his big ol' station wagon. The hometown flavor of the paper has left. I quit buying the paper several years ago, I finally got tired of having filthy hands from handling the paper. I continued to read the Journal online until about two years ago when the website put a trojan horse virus on my computer that took forever to get rid of. I haven't really missed it.
This is the information age. Most of us get our news from the internet nowadays, it's a cornucopia of information right there for the taking. In fact, most times I talk to people who read the newspaper (any newspaper) and they mention the morning's top story, my response is usually, "Oh, yeah...I was reading about that yesterday on Reuters". Times are changing.

I agree 100% with what you said. But don't be fooled... Jessamine Advocate seems familiar to me. I detect John Martin

be warned, lex18 is a FOREIGN CORPORATION, check bizapedia. Our media in Kentucky sucks! Sports are fun to play, but to waste time watching or reading about it is nothing short of wasting life.
