"Private business would not be willing to take on the risk of developing these areas."

But the government will because they have unlimited supplies of our money! Yeah!

Unlimited supplies of money? Not likely! But the government does need to spend its (our) money wisely. Leaving the castle to rot will just be another blight in this county and will do no one any good. When the castle eventually collapses, it will be the county govt. that will end up footing the bill for the clean up. Why not make the effort to have the castle become some kind of tourist attraction that will help draw people to this county and spend money? That is what government money is for!

This reminds me of the guy that goes to garage sales all over town and when you ask him why he is buying all that stuff his reply is "I don't know, it will be good for something some day, I just don't know what".

The BOS are starting to look like "horders".

Maybe the county could use this project as job training workfare for welfare/drug money recipients. Want your check this month? No problem!!! Just work 40 hrs/wk as a laborer, carpenter apprentice, pass your drug test, then pick up your check!

1 year on the job as a trainee and OFF THE DOLE!

That's a great idea. Now for the big question. What have you done with our Village Idiot?

Lowell dear - over a good many dead bodies. It was the drug money rehab people that thrashed the Lake Sands and Lucerne Motel. We have plenty of carpenters and other craftspersons that need work that aren't addicts or on welfare. Once all those folks are hired and there are any open spots maybe an apprenticeship for someone needing a hand up. They already have the hand out. Education opportunities in general (I hope there will be some) come when the place is spiffed up first.

sam - noticed his RV was gone. If I had one - I'd be outta here too. And why yes, anyone wanting to loan me theirs - I'll go away for a while too!

Yep, I saw that too. Tell you what, promise to take our favorite slumlord with you and you can use mine. Hey, I know! You could just hook the truck up to one of his single wides.

So when they run out of money for this, and they will, what will they do?

Have you seen that "shopping center" in Lakeport where the bowling alley is? Maybe not exactly like that but you get the idea.

As an independent contractor and part time employee of community colleges in Northern CA, I am excited to have an opportunity to spawn some regional small businesses in our county. The key to financial stability in CA is the creation of successful small businesses and I look forward to assisting in the positive growth of the Lake County economy through this project and others to follow.
