it would be nice if Mr Jack would be made to make an open apology in court and explian his actions. That would be a little bit of justice. It should be the law. Agree to a deal, tell your story in court. It'll show what type of person you really are.

He won't even be 40 when he gets out. Really a very small sentence for being accused of murder. Eight years is nothing at all and if he gets a mid or low sentence from the judge he could be out in less than three years.
Sorta sounds like the district attorney wasn't wanting a loss right before an election.

A very small sentence for sure, so he can get out and be a menace to society, once again ! He murdered Joe in cold blood, he needs to pay, big time. He had prior felonies. No justice whatsoever !

If the DA made this deal, they must have felt like there was a pretty good chance they would lose.

Losing a murder case before an election is never a good idea.

Let's stop and consider for a moment: Who is up for re-election in that office? Is someone putting politics and re-election ahead of justice and what is right????

Is that what the people of Lake County want from a District Attorney?

Make sure and VOTE.

12 years for murder and robbery only in Lake Co. I don't think the D.A. has a conscience or cares for the citizen of Lake Co.

Agree. Deplorable. No justice in Lake Co. Only for the criminals perhaps.

Make sure and register to vote and cast your vote. The future of justice or lack of justice in this county is going to be decided at the polls.

This is just wrong! I know people did more time for DUI than is guy is getting for murder! Shame on Hopkins...again! Vote and get rid the current DA!
It is not enough just to vote. Figure out who you support and spread the word. Dontate. Go to the candidates forums and ask Hopkins hard questions. Challenge his pro forma responses and demand a response that is truthful. Email other voters.

Make sure justice returns to Lake County.

Elect someone other than Hopkins.

While it is clear that 12 years is insufficient for murder it is unacceptable to be using this incident and this forum as a means to post racial and offensive slurs.
Deals are made to save taxpayer money and because either the defence and/or the prosecution does not feel confident that they can win.
The unfortunate byproduct of democratic elections is the self service exhibited by public officials when their election dates are near. Is there a better alternative? In England and many Commonwealth countries the Crown Prosecuters are employed by the prosecutorial service and not elected. Perhaps that would serve better?

There are others too. Forgiveness, love and kindness as taught and modeled by Christ. Especially important to remember this time of year.

This is still a free Country (for the moment.) Some may choose to forgive psychotic murderers worming their way through our community and be content in turning the other cheek. Others may choose otherwise.

This sentence is an insult to the life of a fine human being, Joe. Jack murdered him in cold blood. Tell me, did he get a "drunk in public"? Probably not. NO JUSTICE, only for the criminals. What is wrong with our justice system, we have none. Disgusting, no regard for the family, no respect for the murdered victim.
