Kirby charges reduced to voluntary manslaughter for Mainsville ...

Nov. 10, 2009 -- Criminal homicide charges against the man who shot his neighbor during an argument in August in Mainsville have been dismissed, replaced with felony voluntary manslaughter and misdemeanor involuntary manslaughter charges.

This may be a silly question but perhaps someone could clarify for me, was this shooting on "Mainsville Road," in Shippensburg? or elsewhere?
I noticed the man is from Ship so I wasn't sure or not if "Mainsville" is technically the street name.

What!?? I am not one to raise the "race card" often, But I wonder if the perpetrator had been black and the victim were white would we see the same outcome. I'd say you are "one to raise the race card". Black and white has nothing to do with this. This is not a black and white thing, it's a bad neighbor (with rage) thing. Get a grip. Would it be different if both were black, or both white? It would just give people less to gossip about.

The police will be waiting down the road for backup so it will take them 45 min. to an hour to reach you. They are not there to protect you and you can't protect yourself. The difference would be that the whites would look at it as though he deserved it for acting like a fraking idiot.......and not blame it on racism....or the fact that slavery was an issue 150 years ago...very simple.....

I believe this is a more fair decision concerning the facts of this charge. Mr. Kirby had every right to believe he and his family were being threatened. If someone came on my property with a ballbat and began breaking my windows, I would definitely have been defended myself, with whatever I could use.

This is a case plain and simple of self defense. If someone threatens your family and your well being you have every right to protect and defend.

I don't know either men, but to me when someone is shot in the back....that is not self-defense! There are other ways of handling any dispute...shooting someone is not the answer!

when you get into rural areas, such as around ship and chbg, it takes police sometimes hours to show up! then when they do, nothing gets done or both get fined, they have no need to find facts or truth. grew up in the area, have seen it way too many times. the local cops are even worse. so when someone in the area tells you they will defend his home and family, you had better believe him. consider it the warning shot.
