Police: Woman steals $35K+ from church

A Newville woman has been accused of stealing more than $35,000 from the Mt. Holly Springs United Methodist Church.

it's a pretty sad state of affairs when you stoop so low as to steal from a church

Jane Marie Poth violated the trust placed in her.
The church now realizes controls are needed. A second set of eyes needs to take a look at how money is being spent. It is true that "opportunity makes a thief." Mt. Holly Springs UMC has learned that lesson. Selah.

Just so all of you know.... that church was NOT going to file charges on this woman but had to so that they could the 35k from the insurance company. That Chruch has been in financial trouble for quite some time. So dont judge. You have no idea what actually took place!

So since the church is in financial trouble, I guess it's ok to take their money. It doesnt matter if the church was going to press charges or not. A thief is a thief. Reality is, only child molesters rank below her.

How does what you've said change the fact that she misappropriated $35K of the church's funds? If the church has been in financial trouble for, say, five years, that does not alter the fact that Jane stole the money. Of course, the public can, and will, judge the woman's deviant behavior. She's accountable for her actions.

This is a shame. I was pretty good friends with Jane's sons back in high school. She's a great person to know...too bad she did something like this.
I hope everything works out as it should for the church and the Poth family.

before you comment on the intellect of someone, you might try using your spell check: waisting=wasting; happend=happened; imbread=inbred; & it's "beating a dead horse, not dam horse. I'm sorry for the impact of this news on family. It's true that the newspaper only prints the facts & there's always a story behind the story. She may have gotten herself in a position that left her feeling she had no choice & believed this was her only option at the time. We all make poor choices at one time or another but her punishment will go far beyond judgment from a jury of her peers - she will always hear the whispers from her community long after she serves her time. It's good that she has your support.
