Why was FFH placed in Newtown to start with?

Newtown has more land than any other town in Ct. But why not place the nuthouse closer to Hartford where it could be overseen much easier? Seems it was easier to bring the Mental Institution to the greater amount of those mentally disturbed. Danbury is still known as "The Hat City" since that was it's claim to fame for many years. 1880s was a time to have a Danbury Hat, THE style and top of the line for its' time. Many chemicals such as sulphuric acid and a lot of lead were used to create the felt and other parts of such a high quality hat. Many locals were sub-contractors who did a lot of work out of their homes and kept the poisons to create such beauty right in their house. This led to constant exposure. When the poisons did not perform after awhile, they were dumped in the backyard. I'm sure the Manufacturers loved this arrangement, kept the most hazardous part away from them. These chemicals and lead did have quite a toll on the people working with them, yes even long ago. Where do you think the term "Mad As A Hatter" came from? Yes, the Alice In Wonderland Charachter comes from a real place, maybe even from Hattertown Road here in Newtown. Seems all the political leaders have been here for several generations. This is not a disease that can be remedied with some medicine like a cold or the flu. This damages genes so it becomes a family heirloom, so to speak. Lead has a tendency to make one a bit anti-social. Maybe this is why the towns leaders look down on the "new" people and see us as tax dollars to fund whatever they want for themselves and their cronies, like taxpayer funded retail and apartment space that will directly benefit themselves but leave the true burden on the "new" taxpayer. From the complete lack of morals or ethics displayed by the entire town leadership and several of their friends maybe we should give some of FFH to them. Like their own room until they can comprehend the damage they have done due to their own greed and keeping the leadership so inbred. These truly are the children and grandchildren of "The Mad Hatter". That seems to be the values that keep this town in the dumps.

Fairfield Hills Hospital was BUILT because the other two then existing state hospitals -- one in Middletown and one in Preston/Norwich -- were overcrowded.

It was built in the western part of the state because there wasn't one there.

It was built in NEWTOWN because that was where land was available. It originally had 750 acres, most of which has since become something else [the prison, the houses along Queen Street, the Reed School, the Horse Guard, the dog facility,...] a lot went to the town back in 2004.

I have never heard that it had an excessive number of former hatters in residence. It's entirely possible! But that wasn't the stated intent of building it or the location.

Denial will not make your history go away. Hattertown Rd. was only ONE of the many areas that sub-contractors worked at with vats of the poisons that make people "Crazy as a Hatter"!! Look at the greedy morons running this town. The disease is still here. They should open up a new one! The history of burying poisonous garbage here obviously goes back over a hundred years and has also been done as recently as within the past two years. Money is being made and some of it HAS to be going to the greedy bastards in charge who don't care about how sick people will get and are getting. Why should they care when the entire Real Estate Community will lie to their own mother to sell a house here?

Too bad they did not renovate one of the buildings as a homeless shelter. There is a great and pressing need for temporary housing for homeless people in this state.

No, that kind of helping out isn't in the blood of this towns leadership. They just want to help themselves to taxpayer funded retail space.

And the Democrats are helping themselves again. The shooting victims families are being paraded to push the anti-gun platform of the Democrats. Since there is an apparent refusal to release the real motive, let's blame the guns. The laws work, Adam could not buy a gun. Were they locked up? Did his Mother refuse to open where they were stored? Maybe all except one. Maybe it's something in the water.
