I also am not crazy about firearms. However, I am considering more and more a permit to carry. I keep a baseball bat by the door and a golf club in each room. A German Sheppard comes in handy too,
although the house insurance company charges me more (imagine that).

The simplest trick to avoid home invader problems is to keep your living room tv tuned to "The History Channel" all night. If anyone breaks in, they'll fall asleep listening to it and you can just call the cops in the morning.

Always amazes me that one thing never mentioned to prevent crime or defend ones self is the ownership of a firearm by the typical law abiding citizen. I've carried for 25+ years, pulled once in a mugging but never shot as they took off like a rabbit.

Calling the police is a crapshoot- you have no constitutional right to their protection. If something they deem as more important is going on then they will send around a car to look into a suspicious car report when they get the time.

Remember- When seconds count the police are only minutes away!

Don't be a sheep- take responsibility for one's own safety and protection.

My parents where denied insurance because they owned a doberman..was the sweetest dog ever, to everyone!
In the future Midge tell your insurance Co that you own a mutt, mongrel, cur...mixed breed, your not sure what breed your dog is.
There is no way for them to find out unless they do a DNA on your pooch.
I myself own a rottie and a jack russel..they'll keep anyone busy long enough for me to load up the 20 gauge...
Also if you people are serious about getting a gun.. TAKE A SAFETY COURSE offered by NRA, you have to for handgun permit anyway, but its a good idea to take one regardless of your choice of protection.
One last thing...get it NOW before a DEM takes the office and lays down MORE gun control laws that make it harder for LAW ABIDING citizens to carry!(or just vote republican)life is so full of choices

Yes, get a fire gun so your kids can kill themselves and shoot at his friends at school. If somebody invade your house you probably won't have time anyway to go get the gun. The only safe way, my friends, it is to pray and hope this doesn't happen to you.

Unless you're carrying your loaded weapon on you at all times and have the knowledge and ability to discharge same you're likely to have your weapon used against you. It would be better to have a sign posted on or near your entrances that would say something like "Gun owner inside and we know how to use them". Cowards, aka criminals, usually avoid residences that they suspect would cause them harm.

True, that is the "safest." And probably the majority opinion given any large group of people. Take for instance, a persecuted racial group who were targeted for extermination during WWII. Millions dead. The survivors? Usually the ones who did NOT play it "SAFE".

I'd say young Israelis today have learned that lesson, and disagree with your sentiment. Both their young men and women are militarily trained, due to mandatory conscription of 3 years for males, 2 years for females, starting at age 18.
Guns, tanks, rockets...they're familiar and handy with them all. No more praying and playing it safe for them anymore...

Nope- I wont advertise that I have firearms in my house so as to NOT be a criminal magnet.

As for Sad, I actually have 3 handguns hidden in various areas of the house in quick release gun safes. My kid cant get into them but the wife and I can. Plus I do carry at all times.

As for praying- pfffttttt... that is a head in the sand attitude as is the hope it doesnt happen to you. When it does it always comes as a shock to people.

cause the millions of LEGAL gun owners kids ALL have done this, surprised there is anyone left standing.
FYI Al the school shootings where done by kids who where ALL on various forms of prescription meds
(anti depressiants, prozac etc..)
