Knowing what to do and/or ideas of what to do should become part of any school safety manual.
Even if it's just tell the kids listen to the adults, hide, get under desks etc. Even if an armed staff member slows a shooter down that's the who point to buy time until the police get there.
Buy time and increase the odds of survival or no injury. What can be done IN the schools themselves. What can the students and staff do to protect themselves on the ground, in the school in the real physical world.
