Whether the Police have nothing else to do should not matter. The arrest of drunk drivers might have saved your life or a member of your family. If one of these drivers had killed someone you probably would have said" Where were the Police" I for one applaud them for taking dangerous drivers off the road.

Let me guess Joseph Schmoe, you were arrested at one time for DUI, that's why you have a grudge against police officers for doing their job of keeping you and other drivers safe. It's NOT a witch hunt, idiot. If that's what you think then maybe you're not responsible enough to get behind the wheel of a car. Grow up.

Chill Joe. You're the one who claimed that the police were on a witch hunt. Now why would you say something like that? I'm sure there are a number of us out there who have gone through a stop sign or traffic light, and I seriously doubt that the policeman who may have stopped us wasn't on a witch hunt. That's his job! Nothing complicated about it and I respect him for doing it.
People who drink and drive I have no respect for. They know they shouldn't do it but they ignore their responsibility to themselves and others on the road.
Instead of bad-mouthing the police why not do a little research and see how many men, women, and children have been needlessly killed by drunk drivers. There are some drivers who will completely ignore the facts and go for that one last drink.
If it takes a so-called witch hunt to get these idiots off the road then Joe, I'm all for the hunt.

well, about 20% of MV deaths involve alcohol, but I do not know how many of them were drunks behind the wheel or innocent victims.
My point involving witch hunts was in reference to DUI check points.
I am not condoning drunk driving.
I contend that those check points are unconstitutional.
.08 or .10 BAC limit is debatable, but many safe drivers, having shown no deficiency, who blow under a .10 have had their lives turned upside down by those stops.

Unconstitutional???!! Come on Joe. A little traffic stop is nothing compared to what EVERYONE goes through at an airport screening. If anything, I would say THAT is a witch hunt.
As for "their lives turned upside down", I think you're being a little dramatic and you probably read too many fiction books. If their lives were turned upside down, they were either unstable in the first place; they lived in former Communist Russia where checkpoints were common; or they were guilty of something before they got stopped!! I don't know of anyone who's life was turned upside down by a simple traffic stop.
I'll tell you what, the next time you get stopped at a checkpoint, put the pedal to the metal. I guarantee you your life will be turned upside down.

Let me just add to my #44 that just as the idea behind airport screening is to prevent a possible disaster and the loss of life, so also do DUI checkpoints. The need to accomplish this task does not catagorize these as witch hunts.
