Here is our Answer ... House burned in North Carolina because owner was gay

There are 46 comments on the lezgetreal.com story from Nov 11, 2008, titled Here is our Answer ... House burned in North Carolina because owner was gay. In it, lezgetreal.com reports that:

This past weekend I wrote an article titled the Answer I Got.

In that article I said that because of the passage of Prop 8 in California, people in less enlightened places like where I live in North Carolina, were going to take that vote as a mandate to do more to gays then just vote against their rights to marry and that I was now loading my gun...

Yesterday A fire that destroyed a home in Newton, North Carolina may have been started by someone targeting its owner because he is gay, county and state investigators say.

Firefighters found homophobic and racist slurs spray painted on the back of the building.

As I said when Larry King was shot in the head in anOxnard CA public school by a classmate. The blood of children are now on the hands of these crusaders. Everyone who voted for these laws is guilty of violence to children. John 11:35

President Elect Obama is going to make marriage for GLBT legal in all 50 States within four years.

We already have the right to marry because that is a religious ceremony, and SOON we will have the civil document that will be called civil union placed in the US constitution by a new liberal USSC.

It really is over for the bigots. All those votes on propositions were a waste of time and will be tossed.

State constitutions will follow the Federal constitution and by force order from the President and Congress to use the military if needed.

Some States did not want blacks to have civil rights and it used to be a felony for blacks and whites to marry but that changed and some States needed the sitting President of the time to use a little force.

Civil Rights never come by public vote or popular opinion.

Gays have won a huge victory this year that will pay off in the next few years and bigots are clueless to this fact.

And a gun would have prevented this incident how?

Violence used against violence begets more and more violence. What purpose does that serve prey tell? You having a gun isn't going to change a damned thing other than one or more people may get killed.

So you're going to get a second gun now to protect yourself even more? Are you ambidextrous or you just gonna keep the second one in a holster so that you'll have a refill after you kill a bunch of em?

You're yelling fire in a movie house when there isn't one. There are other ways to deal with bigots and bigotry and NO you're not seeing something new because of the vote on 8. It's just been there and you've finally started noticing it because of your (seemingly) new interest in activisim. I'd suggest you begin learning the how toos of community organizing and get involved in the gay activist organizations in your part of the nation.

Blogs are one thing but getting out of the chair and making things happen, other than shouting fire, is the real test of your mettle.

Owning a gun would have done nothing to prevent this case of arson, but owning a gun would have prevented other instances where gays have been killed. We gays need to quit being easy prey to hate mongers and gay bashers. All the hate crime laws in the world isnt going to help you if you're laying on the ground in a pool of your own blood.

I am afraid you are very wrong on this one.... the biggots will think twice if they know we are not easy prey... I am no arm chair warrior.

now the other day I asked you to teach us how to do that, how to fight this... and you said you have done your share and I had to figure it out on my own... I say it is you who are the arm chair warrior here... and one that seems not to want to help us younger ones to be good leaders in this struggle...

Although I firmly believe in the right to bear arms, I do not believe that we will make any points by shooting people who attack us. Either way, some will die. If, however, we run around shooting all the straights, those that are our friends may start developing ideas that we really are psychologically unstable and maybe we just need appropriate psychological help.

A rock and a hard place, this. If Matthew Sheppard (may his memory be eternal) had been armed, do you think it would have made any difference?

This is a nation of laws. The fundamental laws exist that point out that we are being treated as second class citizens. The president-elect said that he defines marriage as one man and one woman. Fine, but why is he also raising taxes on SINGLE people? That means that just because my partner of 25 years and I are not MARRIED, we get taxed more.

The laws will prevail. The bad laws will be overturned. All men are created equal.

Arming ourselves against the type of people who would do us harm will do no good.

They are too cowardly to attack one-on-one. While 2 or 3 are holding you the other 3 or 4 in the mob will take your gun and kill you with it. That'll show 'em!

We need to organize peacefully and use our Constitution to over turn these narrow minded pieces of (dare I say) legislation.

Proposition 8 in California and Ammendment 2 here in Florida will not stand up in the US Supreme Court. It's time to stand up, peacefully, for what is ours by right as US citizens.

President Elect Obama will do all he can, I believe that in my heart, but he is only one man. We have to do our parts, too. That does not mean building up an arsenal.

Yeah, it so true. When a prejudice is codified into law, the bigoted portion of the populace takes that as a green light to do their thing.

I lived in Colorado during Amendment 2, and it was friggin' crazy. It was like open season on queers. People lived in abject fear of being outed, which could lead to a beating, job loss, or worse. FOTF used to station people in places near where the queers gathered in Colorado Springs to gather intel and pics.

When we marched during Gay Pride, few people would line the streets for fear of being spotted or outed. Those of us that did march were jostled, beaten, kicked, stepped on, hit with protestor signs, and spit upon, all wqhile the police watched from across the street.

As soon as the Amendment was appealed, the protestors got sent across the street, and the police formed a gauntlet of sorts to make sure nothing happened. The queer citizenry was actually protected. This led to almost no protestors showing up, because they couldn't abuse us anymore.

But my ex-roomie was still killed in a hate crime that was never solved. Things got a lot better, but with crazy right wingers in abundance, it was never completely safe to be queer.

I can see a lot worse happening as this conflict progresses. It's only a matter of time before an MCC is burned down, if this goes on long enough.

I disagree. I frequently read about singular bigots attacking groups of gay people. It's not that they are brave. It's simply that they see gay people as so weak that there's nothing to be afraid of. After all, they think that gay people are limp-wristed sissies who can't flit around like little girls. Why should they be afraid to attack us individually? It's not as if gay people are going to fight back. That's why it's fun for them.

It would not be so much fun if they thought that maybe they just might wind up with a .45 between the eyes

I agree the name Pink Pistols is weak... but I am working on starting a new group along the line of the Pink Pistols... I am a strong advocate that we should arm ourselves... what do you think we should call it?

How about calling it AGAVE... Arming Gays Against Violence Everywhere. I support your efforts, but please remember that knowledge is the greatest weapon at your disposal.
