If that sort of thing is shown on tv, it's on very select channels which parents can regulate - it isn't thrown in your face at a public event. This lady's children were 3 and 4 years old - under NO circumstances is it excusable for such a display to be placed where they can easily see it. I have teenaged children who certainly have a right to understand abortion, but even at their they do not need such a graphic display thrust at them. The information is not unimportant, but the manner in which it was distributed probably kept many people away.

Sounds very tasteless to say the least, and what TV programs feature the graphic things named in SouthernBelle's post?

So she wasn't offended by all the drinking going on, but she's offended by pictures? Ok. So she's OK with her kids being exposed to public intoxication, but not OK with pictures of aborted children. Ok.

I rarely watch tv myself, but I have flipped past channels where surgery is being done. IF. The first poster said you see stuff like that on tv. It wasn't just aborted images...the images are very disturbing.

AND IT WAS THE FIRST POSTER THAT I WAS RESPONDING TO. GUESS I SHOULD'VE DIVIDED MY POST INTO 2 PARTS. SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION.
It wasn't just aborted images...the images are very disturbing. I'm sure it was. It sounds terrible.

So, are you saying that seeing someone consume an alcoholic beverage is comparable to seeing "graphic photos of dead, dismembered, bloody baby parts that were at my children's eye level" ? Okaaay.

It wasn't SB's post that named the offensive pictures. It was the letter in the HDR. Someone actually chided the letter writer for not being as concerned about the aborted babies as she was her own children!(I'm sure she was concerned with both) Now I see what the poster meant, who said that they were interested in saving babies but didn't care how the children were traumatized later on.

It's difficult sometimes to catch a meaning at first when something is being written instead of verbalized.
The pictures may have been ok at some sort of seminar or very serious forum, but not at Oktoberfest. They are very graphic. I understand the passion the presenters have for the cause they have chosen - it is admirable when anyone stands for something that means a lot to them - but displays need to be tempered to the occasion.

EXACTLY! I'm sure they also believe that fornication is wrong, but if the group displayed graphic pictures of THAT, it would be considered porn, wouldn't it? I just don't see the need to use that kind of thing to show that something is wrong.

Okaaay. I'm saying this lady has serious double standard issues. She's apparently fine with having her kids in an environment that promotes public intoxication and most likely drunk driving, but she's shocked and appalled at some photographs of what takes place more than a million times a year in this country. Would she have been equally shocked at photographs of mangled cars and mangled bodies as a result of drunk driving accidents?

Would she have been equally shocked at photographs of mangled cars and mangled bodies as a result of drunk driving accidents? In the forum in which the photos...grisly photos...were presented - Oktoberfest - yes, photos of mangled cars and mangled bodies would have been equally shocking and out of place...and needless, tasteless photos such as these should not be placed at the eye level of 3 and 4 year old children. The mother most likely knew there would be alcohol consumption and the possibility of public intoxication...she could be on the lookout for that and had a better chance of steering her children away from it. She had no idea there would be photos of dismembered, aborted babies available for her children to view.

HOW SO? THE BIBLE CLEARLY CONDEMNS MURDER, PERIOD! IT ALSO CONDEMNS "DRUNKENNESS" BUT NOT THE MERE CONSUMPTION OF AN ALCOHOLIC DRINK. HOW CAN ONE ASSUME THAT ALL WHO DRANK AN ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE AT OCTOBERFEST WAS DRUNK? AND EVEN IF IT COULD BE PROVEN THAT ALL WHO DRANK ALCOHOL THERE, WERE DISGUSTINGLY DRUNK, HOW DOES THAT BRING IRE ON THIS LADY FOR NOT WANTING HER 3 AND 4 YEAR OLD CHILDREN TO SEE BLOODY BODY PARTS OF DISMEMBERED, ABORTED BABIES?
She's apparently fine with having her kids in an environment that promotes public intoxication and most likely drunk driving,
IS "PRIVATE" INTOXICATION MORE ACCEPTABLE? DO YOU CONSIDER A RESTAURANT WHICH SERVES ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES AS " an environment that promotes public intoxication and most likely drunk driving" ALSO?
but she's shocked and appalled at some photographs of what takes place more than a million times a year in this country.
DO YOU THINK THAT THE SHEER NUMBERS OF HOW MANY TIMES A YEAR THIS DESPICABLE ACT TAKES PLACE, MAKES IT LESS APPALLING?
Would she have been equally shocked at photographs of mangled cars and mangled bodies as a result of drunk driving accidents? I can't answer what this lady might be equally shocked about, but I can venture to say that pictures of mangled cars would NOT have the same effect on her 3-4 yr.old children, as did the graphic pictures of baby pieces. Mangled bodies probably would've been objectionable as well.

Oh yea, I am all for partial birth abortion. But can I ask a question? When you pull the helpless infant out of the womb by the leg, cept for the head , so you can stab this child with scissors and suck this child brains out, is this to keep it "legal" or to keep from hearing the first screams of a HUMAN BEING????

Well, since I am very much AGAINST abortion of either manner, I wouldn't know the motives of those who are "for it." Since you say you are FOR partial birth abortion, why don't you tell us the reason YOU prefer?

Since you say you are FOR partial birth abortion, why don't you tell us the reason YOU prefer? Please...the topic here is the appropriateness of photos displayed at Oktoberfest. For or against abortion, the original story was a letter to the editor from a woman who unexpectedly came upon a grisly display at Oktoberfest with 3 and 4 y/o in tow...a display that was at their eye level. Let's not disintegrate into an ugly pro/con fight over how abortions are performed. That's another post, somewhere else.
