The Casino will be in East Boston/Revere at Suffolk Downs! Not to worry in Everett. Mr Wynn may be in Section 11 Bankruptcy soon; google search his X..Mrs. Wynn who is asking for more $$$ from his gambling winnings. Also, read what the Mayor of Somerville had to say in the Somerville News yesterday. Bobby Kraft and Bobby DeLeo will put the Casino in Revere/East Boston where there is already Gambling, Roads in and out of the Parking Lot, and a nearby Airport with Ground Trans. to and from the Casino. So, Everett is stuck with the same old high crime, low income (illegal)lowlife, foreclosed homes, drugs, and prostitutes. The Casino will be in East Boston where it belongs.
"Everett is stuck with the same old high crime, low income (illegal)lowlife, foreclosed homes, drugs, and prostitutes" Yeah it's a good thing East Boston and Revere don't have any of those problems. What a tool!

The biggest problem Suffolk Downs has is the vote by the people in the city of Boston...They won't get near the approval rating that the Casino in Everett will......They may not even get a majority.....The Csino Commission who will determine the site, will look at that very strongly.

I have always had a strange feeling about this casino that is being proposed in Everett. I follow the Wynn facebook page everett united. all of their post are about how the project is going to help the city and about how good it is for us. They post about how united we wynn. And i always called bullshit. Why would a billionaire care so much about everett residents? Does he really want to help everett? No he wants our support so he can gain a billion dollar contract to build his casino. No random billionaire cares about a random city like ours. It's all about buisness. Making it look like they care about us and will help us out is a tactic they are using to make their own gains. This is the same tactic a politician uses to get votes.

Most of those people have businesses in Everett but don't live here. It is not a grassroots organization but one contrived by Wynn's hired consultants.

All that Casinos will do is take your money--and fast. Your better off playing the state lottery, especially season tickets like megabucks or mass millions, or the numbers if your a daily gambler; your money will last a lot longer, and over the course of a year you may make some money as to opposed to probably losing a ton of money and qualifying for the poor house or welfare.

Do you ever notice that in the suburbs, where educated or well-to-do people live, they want no part of it because they know the destruction it brings to their lives.

Social Costs of Legalized Gambling
Gambling causes damage to family relationships and financial security. Recent studies have shown that for every $1 in revenue, the state is burdened with between $5 and $7 in social cost.

Americans spend nearly $600 billion on gambling annually. Casino developers are promoting the revenue windfall they claim would result. And, Indian tribal leaders are making plans for casinos without accountability to either their tribes or surrounding communities, claiming that their casino would be a solution to all tribe’s financial troubles. None of this is true.
Now, consider just some of the “costs” of legalized casino gambling:

According to the most comprehensive study on casinos and crime, increases in rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and auto theft are found in areas where casinos are built.
Gambling addictions and the ensuing debt can tear a family apart through suicide, divorce, bankruptcy and criminal activity, including murder.
Although a new casino facility will initially bring construction jobs, experience has shown a net loss of jobs overall. This is the direct result of small local businesses being unable to compete with the all-inclusive nature of the casino complex that features restaurants, boutiques, stores and hotels.

Teen Gambling
Though gambling can be a problem at any age, teenage gambling has risen to alarming levels in recent years. The glamorization and mainstreaming of poker on television and in pop culture, coupled with the dramatic increase in the availability of online gambling, has led to disturbing trends among teenagers. Likewise, at least 78 percent of Massachusetts teens have placed a bet by their 18th birthday. A recent Harvard University study found that between 10 and 17 percent of teenagers have gambling problems-nearly three times the rate of adults.

The NEW Everett
Casino workers urged to get food stamps

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
ATLANTIC CITY -- The union representing Atlantic City casino service employees is encouraging workers at Resorts Casino Hotel who took pay cuts last winter to apply for food stamps.

Local 54 of Unite-HERE handed out leaflets Wednesday on the Boardwalk in front of Resorts, offering to help workers file for government food assistance.

"I never, ever thought it could come to this," said Jean Stewart, who has worked as a housekeeper, cleaning rooms at Resorts for 20 years. The Atlantic City woman said she supports a daughter and three grandchildren on $270.50 a week. On Thursday, she will apply for government aid for the first time.

"I'm going to be standing in line to apply for food stamps after 20 years of being self-sufficient," she said. "It's embarrassing and humiliating.

"It took me 20 years to get up to $14.17 an hour, and six months to go down to $9.51 an hour," she said. "I think it stinks. I feel like an old shoe that's being thrown away."

The union's president, Bob McDevitt, estimated 300 people currently working for Resorts make little enough to qualify for food stamps.

In New Jersey, an individual making $1,670 a month qualifies for the aid . A family of four making $3,400 a month qualifies.

"When casino gaming was approved in New Jersey, it said right there in the law that these had to be good jobs, with benefits," said McDevitt, adding a casino job has traditionally been a gateway to a solid middle-class existence in Atlantic City. "If the future of Atlantic City will be $9-an-hour jobs after working here 10 to 15 years, then why are we even allowing casinos to have licenses? "

The union criticism surprised co-owner Dennis Gomes, who bought Resorts in December with New York real estate investor Morris Bailey just as the casino -- the first in the nation to open outside Nevada -- was in danger of shutting down.

They say we need the revenue yet they give themselves pay raises. They say we need new businesses yet they don't lower the tax structure. There are two sides to every story. Don't just listen to one side.

Call Anne Canaday from the Environmental Office. Since Mayor Demaria is neglecting to make this info public, people should be made aware that you can email, write a note since it does not have to be a formal letter and she promises that all your concerns will be addressed.

You do not have to be an Everett Resident.

It can be about stress, traffic, gambling addictions, impact on children that casinos have, pollution and of course quality of life for us and our surrounding neighbors. She said the more details in your concerns the more the Wynn organization will be legally obligated to make what they are doing and planning on doing, public.

Deadline is midnight July 12th and put your name and address so you get confirmation your inquiry was received and info can be mailed to you.

Google Anne Canaday for her number and email Environmental Analyst - anne dot canaday at state dot ma dot us to attention Richard Sullivan

The casino will more than likely be located in Revere. Just hope the mayor isn't spending money we are not in possession of yet. It sure looks like he is. Guarantee taxes go up soon.

Many folks I talked to who are against it unfortunately didn't bother to get out and vote. One on them said she was tired of so many elections in such a short time. We will never know how the other two thirds of the voter who didn't vote would have voted.
