I was right ahead of this accident going east. Saw the small "jeep" cross the center. Suspect those in the small SUV fell asleep, it did not slow down on bit as it hit the semi.

Terrible thing to see. Suspect no survivors in the SUV as it blew into flames right away, vicious crash.
It was a mess

I saw something that looked like it might have been a car at one time being driven into Newton off exit 168 on a flatbed. I figured it was a sedan or midsize car, not a Jeep. Whatever it used to be, it was too destroyed to show much of its previous state. The pavement was charred as though it was an explosion and the paint was burned off of the road as well. I'm sure there were no survivors in the car/Jeep/SUV/vehicle.

We need to get some of the cult members "bible thumpers" from Newton to go out and bless I-80. Maybe they could stand out in the middle of the road while they do it.

Jasper is not a hellhole! And yes there has been too many accidents in and near Newton. It's sad that we have these accidents, but to have about what? 5 head-on collisions in a little over a week and 3 of those in Jasper county? Why is it that when one bad crash starts then others are sure to follow? I don't mean to sound down on drivers, just an observation.

I think you are rude and you NEED TO FIND GOD, maybe then you would not be so hateful. It's people like you in this world who makes it an ugly place to live. Find God in your life and maybe the world would be a little more beautiful. If you dont heed this advice shut your mouth and dont put GOD down, because some of us do believe and are not ashamed of it!

This is one more reason to increase patrols of I-80 and to keep people more alert. I saw 3 different highway patrol cars in the city of Grinnell tonight. Need to get them on the road..........

I sat in a stand still traffic jam for almost an hour and a half because of this accident. When we finally got moving again and they detoured us around the accident you couldn't even tell what kind of vehicle it was. Not only was it completely smashed it was also completely burned to only the car frame. It was insanely scary.

The only positive thing was that I saw more State Patrolmen on the interstate today then I have in the last 3 months put together. Maybe if the state wouldn't have cut so much of the budget on stupid stuff they could be out there doing their job and pulling over the out of control drivers
Just wondering

I cannot believe the negative things people are saying. you have nothing better to do them to say the things you are saying. And yes there was a fatality. she was a young girl. My mother worked with her. Those of you with your stupid remarks should invest your time into something other then putting others down or making fun of places. I think there is a HUGE problem on this stretch of road. They should put up wire fence that they have over towards Iowa city. My thoughts go out to the family involved.

I agree with you and my prayers are with all of you, and the family members. It's a sad thing to deal with. Sorry to hear of the loss.

We sat there as well...but then after an hour we decided to cross the median (as so many vehicles were doing/had done already) and back track into Baxter and around the crash site. I'm glad we did so that we didn't have to see that!

Sorry for the loss of another life, but at the same time if any driver is aware of what is going around them they can avoid an accident. They just need to slow down and be observant. People always want to put the blame elsewhere instead of where it belongs.
