On July 11th at 7:15pm, I was driving on Cosby Highway. An Allied ambulance was in the left lane driving approximately 20 mph with the lights on, no siren. As we pulled into the turning lane in front of Western Auto, the ambulance turned the sirens on, passed the cars in the turning lane on the wrong side of the road and proceeded through a caution light. Guess what? As we approached the ambulance service, the ambulance was parked and the driver was getting out of the truck. Big emergency, huh? It would have been very sad if someone in the cars that pulled over to let the ambulance by, had caused an accident or hurt themselves trying to make way for an emergency vehicle. I suppose their dinner in a bag was getting cold or they were expecting a visitor at the ambulance service. Who is really serving our county? Another example of why myself and many people I know, support Cocke Co. Ambulance Service.

was it definantly the same unit> the run 3,could have be one of the other trucks. or maybe they got cancled en route (happens all the time). why would you make a hateful comment about there dinner bag? you work 24 hours and miss as many meals as they do and you might have reason to make an ugly comment. you have the right to back any service you wish but you should remember all the things allied has done for this county. the cosby and parrottsville stations were both provided at no expense to the county. the 3rd als unit is provided at no expense to you. how much equipment has he donated to the high school, sheriffs dept, etc. seems to me like you just want to start trouble where none exsists.

Yes, it was the same truck because i seen the driver on Cosby Highway. I could care less about their dinner bag. As a citizen, am I allowed to turn on my emergency blinkers in order to go less than 1/2 mile a little faster? I think not. As for causing trouble for Allied Ambulance Service, you all don't need any help there. Allied does enough on their own to stay in trouble and to cause trouble with Cocke Co. Ambulance Service. I am a healthcare professional myself.
I see EMTs and paramedics on a daily basis. I also know that a year ago, AA was sitting in a local restaurant when a call came through on their radio for an emergency transport and the call was ignored. How do I know this? I was with the injured person and 3 of my co-workers were having lunch at the table next to the AA workers. Cocke Co. ambulance responded to the emergency eventhough they were not the contracted service. So, I believe I have hit a sore spot with Allied workers. The point of my post was to voice a concern, not start trouble. As the old saying goes....If the shoe fits, wear it.

It doesn't matter how much equipment *he* has donated or to who. The use of these vehicles will be charged to you. Allied is a private owned service and does make money. There is a big difference in being run by the county and privately owned. As far as missing meals, I don't think there are only 1 or 2 ambulances in service to cover the whole county and I seriously doubt they miss that many meals. I believe that some employees do take advantage of the ER lights if they want to get somewhere in a hurry. If you have your ER lights on then one would believe that you are already in an emergency situation, moreover, the driver is required to have a siren on when in traffic and especially when going through traffic lights. Sounds like the driver needs some further training.

As a part time 911 employee, maybe they were just coming off one call and heading to the station when another one came in. Maybe the reason for the light/siren return was to replenish stock of needed items so they could quickly respond. Just food for thought..... Personally I could care less which service they send if I am laying on the side of the road bleeding! Just send someone!!

as an ems worker, i have to say this with my whole heart. allied ems is junk. i cant wait for their contract to be up and they finally get out of the county. The county doesnt need to contract in an ambulance service they have one already. Cocke County EMS should get full responsibility of Cocke County. CLB, I think, is finally starting to see that. If Allied shows up at your house and you sign a waiver saying you dont want to go to the hospital, they charge you 100$ just for showing up. That is not right. They are more worried about money then public safety. Yes some of the employees are really great and i would buy them a beer on their days off but as for the company as a whole, it sucks. Cocke County can do better. I hope a member of the public safety board is reading this. As for the emergency traffic ordeal. I have run my fair share of calls and i know that state law requires that BOTH lights and sirens must be used when responding to a call. Vanessa K. Free law was made for a reason and that reason was to educate Emergency workers in proper Vehicle operations when responding to calls. You see police officers in newport turn their lights on and blow through traffic lights with no siren. This is ILLEGAL as hell. Someone needs to step up and take control of what our county public safety people do when going to calls. This has been a big issue with me for a while. NO ONE IS EXEMPT FROM THE LAW! Give COcke County EMS the county and give them a little push money and i guarantee you will start to see positive results in our EMS system. Allied has too many lawsuits on them to renew their contract and rural metro will cost the county more than $600,000. Give Cocke County Ambulance Service a chance. Thank you
P.S. I do live in Cocke County just dont work for them.

Thank you Allied Wat. Cocke Co. needs its own county run EMS like it use to be. Cocke Co. people serving their own community. It would make a difference. Jerry Holt and Donnie Holt have served the needs of ppl in Cocke County when they couldn't afford to pay a high transport bill. I hold Cocke Co. EMS and its employees in high regard.

i am going to respond to this because i was in the unit in question. as we transported a patient to mercy west we began to have some minor problems in the unit in question. while it seemed minor i realized it had the potential to become a problem. in order to not place our patient at risk or delay her treatment another ambulance was sent to take her on to the receiving hospital ,we returned to newport to place that unit out of service and change trucks.(we try to keep @ least 1 back up unit at all times, usually 2).the closer we got to town the bigger the mechanical problem came. as we neared the intersection in question it became apparent that if we came to a stop the truck would be stuck there. as the shift supervisor i had to decide whether a large truck broken down at a busy intersection would be more hazardous then a controled run through that light would be. and contrary to your statement the siren was on. i know that because i flipped the switch. i realize how it may have appeared but i can assure you it wasnt to eat or because we are to good to wait in traffic. i spent 8 years working in grainger county. they have a service owned by the county, get new trucks every 2 years and guess what,we still had breakdowns. you simply cant put that sort of milage on a vehicle and not have the occassional problem. as for the other service,i like all their employees and get along well with both jerry and donny. i have never tried to paint them in any type unfavorable light. as for the emt that asserted we are junk,we it's clear he has no intention of ever working for a second class, privately owned service. if he feels that way then i wish him the best. however if he is going to attack our service, and with it the employees, then he should be proud enough of his professional opinion to state his name and not some on screen alias. otherwise it looks as if he doesnt want to burn any bridges, and that would only invalidate his argument.

Why isnt Allied dispatched directly from our E-911 Dispatchers? You always hear the tones go off and a call out from E-911 to Allied and after usually a minute or two a call from Allied dispatch relaying the same information and THEN sending an ambulance. These couple of minutes may not sound like much, but during a life or death situation it may mean everything.

I live between Cocke Co. Ambulance Service and BHCC and if I need help I want Cocke Co. Ambulance Service to get me to the hospital. If I have a need for an Ambulance elsewhere I will request a Cocke Co. Ambulance.

What a bunch of a$*Holes!! Everyone of you should be thankful to have Allied EMS working in Newport! Just a bunch of rednecks complaining because you have nothing better to do with your time than start crap on topix! You should be very ashamed of yourselves!! If you really have a problem or concern with that company why don't you take it up with the Allied owner? Would be much more adult of you all to do that then be a bunch of 2yr old whiney rednecks on Topix! Put the nautural lite beer cans down and your pill bottles get off your couch be a grown-up for once and stop trashing the reputation of our emergency medical service be thankful to have one in this drug infested county!!!!!!!

And to the person who started this topic, why don't you get your facts straight on a situation before you bad mouth Allied! You want to run your mouth and start up a stink I guarantee you don't have the Balls to go to the source of the problem and confront the owner of Allied! I know you won't because thats why you brought this out on topix. Real grown up of you, acting like a real 5th grader sounding like someone stole your pudding cup so your going to cry and whine instead of confronting a situation.

Everyone else leaving trash about Allied on topix you should consider yourself lucky for having so many emergency medical trucks in your county! Cocke county is filled with drugs, and drunks, and whore's its a wonder anyone would want to step foot in this county and help any of you anyways!! Yeah you guys really sure do make this county look outstanding, meaning trashy!!

Hold on. Just compare a Cocke County EMS ambulance bill to Allied. You will find that Allied charges WAY LESS than Cocke County EMS. And, good luck with calling them directly, cause they don't always answer their phones. I found all this out the hard way. At least Allied will work well with you on paying your bill.
