Unfortunately, the population in Newport cannot support any of those stores and never will. There is not a large enough population with an upper-middle class lifestyle to have disposable income to go buy $2,000 flat screen TVs at Best Buy or a literate, let alone college educated population that would support a Barnes & Noble. Before companies locate stores in an area, they examine factors such as per capita income and college education.
I can dream, lol. I was thinking more oh the Newport /Morristown/Jeff City area as a whole. I agree with the guy who said the area could support a Panera's
I still think a well located Target would work. I wish construction on Dumplin Creek would resume. What is that big building that is going up across the highway from it?

They ask politely for you not to speed. They put signs up to remind you the speed limit. Yet you shoot them a bird when they put up cameras. The cameras would not be up anywhere if people would obey the law. Plain and simple..

I think we should have a Petco, walmat and co-op are about the only places to get pet products. There needs to be more options, and Petco is just to far to drive everyother week.

the thing is newport cannot support a petco. there wouldnt be enough business to keep them afloat. yeah it would be nice to have a lot of places here. but they cant make it on the few people who would shop there.

The big building going up across the interstate from dumplin creek is going to be the Lisega, INC. building. The current one is in newport near eastern plating and american applience. The new building more than doubles the size of the current one.

I called Target and was able to talk to them about the possibility of coming to Newport. The answer was No because our population is too small and if it was bigger it still wouldn't work because Cocke county is the 2nd poorest County on TN. They wouldn't make enough money to survive here. :(
