It takes at least 3 months after being exposed for a tb test to come back positive . People get tested right after being around someone with tb so they can prove they did not have it before being exposed by that person .

have to stay in hospitals for months but now people go to work with it. I don't think it's as bad as it used to be if caught early enough. I do think the paper should have told us what the diasease was. My mom had TB when we were chilren and she had to stay in a sanitorium for about 7 months and we had to be tested but none of us ever tested positive.
.

It is just as bad as it ever was. It is the same disease. And if you are actively sick with TB you won't be allowed to go to work because you are putting others at risk. It's still a contagious and airborne disease. And I'm glad your mom lived thru it. My aunt's mother and sister didn't.

<quoted text>its a fact she has as TB. I had to be tested because of work. I only came in indirect contact with her, her husband on the the other hand I took money from him. And yes he us infected. The real problem is they have 3 school age kids and yes they tested positive. Now you wait and see the whole school system will have to be tested.oh and my contact was 2 months ago just imagine how many people have crossed yje paths of the 5 infected people. Go a head you can panic now.
Thanks. So how do you know who she is? Why aren't the rest of us able to know so we know if we have crossed her path? And her kids all have TB too? How do you know this? According to the news SHE is the only one being quarantined.

I thought school aged children were vaccinated for TB. I dont have kids myself so I could be wrong.
Not any more. We wiped out TB a long time ago so they no longer vaccinate for it. Same as Polio. I wasn't vaccinated the that.

That sounds like a typical response from a Newport resident! I'm guessing you are getting a welfare or disability check also! You don't even know the woman has kids or what school they go to or that they have anything. OFFICIAL NEWS SOURCES confirmed ONE WOMAN. I am guessing that is it and the rest of this is BS! If there were confirmed cases of TB at any of the schools the parents would be notified. And YOU cannot sue the school system if your kid gets sick. I'm guessing you would sue if they got a snotty nose too.

I understand that kids are not immunized for it, but evidently we did NOT wipe it out a long time. As far as everything else you said though, I agree with you 100%.

Yes WE did. We have tons illegals coming here everyday and they bring their diseases with them. If they come legally they have to have shots for certain things. The United States had wiped this disease out. Other countries have not done that yet. And as long as we let people trapse across the boarders illegally things like this will continue to happen.

that the TB DOES

I REPEAT! Infected Mexicans are bringing DRUG RESISTANT TB into the U.S. This means that the TB DOES NOT respond to drugs we use in an attempt to treat it.

Now, read it again > Infected Mexicans are bringing DRUG RESISTANT TB into the U.S. This means that the TB DOES NOT respond to drugs we use in an attempt to treat it.

Still don't get it???!!!? Read the following article:

http://www.aolnews.com/2010/07/01/us-health-o ...

CHIAPAS, Mexico (July 7)-- Tuberculosis, one of the world's deadliest diseases, has long been forgotten by most Americans, but it is re-emerging in a new, virulent form around the world. U.S. health officials now worry that especially dangerous strains of the airborne pathogen have surfaced in Mexico, thanks to a dysfunctional health care system in the country's poorest regions. And they could spread to the United States.

Here's one scenario that keeps health officials on edge: A Mexican contracts the disease from a family member, or even a poorly run hospital, and then comes to the United States seeking work. There, living in crowded, cramped conditions without adequate ventilation, he passes it to several other migrants. But instead of promptly seeking medical assistance, the workers shun health care out of fear that they won't be treated or risk being deported. As a result, the disease festers and spreads.

Dr. Eugene McCray, the chief of the international tuberculosis elimination program at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, considers any legal barriers to care "abysmal, because people are in the community and they are going to transmit disease and it is going to affect Americans. It is very short-sighted." He said the best way to halt the disease isn't border protection, but increased collaboration and support to strengthen Mexico's health system. "For enlightened self-interest, we need to be concerned about tuberculosis," he said. "It has been totally ignored for many, many years."

NO. She does not. But it doesn't matter what I say because some moron will attack me and say the opposite. All you can do is pick who you want to believe. And if she did have a kid at any school it wouldn't matter because SHE is the one who has TB. Do you honestly think if she had kids that the authorities wouldnt have picked them up too or tested them too? She is in a secure place away from others. If she had kids with TB they wouldn't be at school and her be in isolation.

Fact TB has never been wiped out in the US. If it was then healthcare workers wouldn't have to be tested for it every year. Fact elderly people that were exposed years ago are coming down with it now. Fact people have exposed many others before TB is even suspected. Everyone that has a cough or weakness is not automaticly checked for TB. Due to stronger drugs more people live with this diesease. The problem is people are selfish and don't care what they spread. More die from complications of influenza than TB. Yet here people are dragging their sick kids or sick themselves to Walmart or worse to church. They don't care who they give it to. Have some sence people.

Someone on here has a name and needs to give it up! Seriously, people get on here everyday and talk/expose others for nonsense that doesn't even matter to most others. But this is something that could effect the entire community. This person is in their 30's, was recently housed at the jail (meaning whether this specific individual was a trustee or not, they were in contact with trustees who are in contact with every single courthouse employee and other general public!), and now are being held at the local hospital, and their picture was passed out at the court hearing... so there are many community members that know exactly who this person is and they need to let this important info out!! Someone just tell already... it's not like you will be found out... we are on topix afterall, where everyone hides their name!! And does anyone know for a fact that it is TB? I read the paper and it didn't specify.

WATE News said the lady does have TB, but that health officials doesn't seem to think that there is any reason for the public to be concerned. LOL! they must be stupid, of course the public should be concerned. They should have to release the name of this lady so that everyone who has been in contact with her can be checked. Also, if she does have children who attend Edgemont then a notice needs to be sent out so parents of children who attend school there know to be aware of the symptoms.
