I use to handle them years ago at the church in Carson Springs with the Packs. There was a documentary about it not long ago on Channel 6 The Packs headed that church up..I believe they were banned years ago since some of the congregation died from drinking poison and snake bites..I would bet they still practice their religion somewhere in the backwoods of North Carolina..They traveled from KY, TN and NC.

Just kidding about handling snakes..hell I would dig a ditch with my feet getting out of there if one came toward me :)

it is sad but they taught John to handle snakes.. Believe all you want, but if my son died from a friggen snake I'd want to kill every snake I could find. They may be good but not to smart to teach their children & grandchildren to play with serpents. To bad John died instead of his teacher. U know we are supposed to teach our children to be safe.

No you're wrong.. It shouldn't have been the way it turned out. The idiots raised their kids to think it was good & Gods will.. It's sad & was very tragic..

You're right, but you're wrong. It should not have been the way it turned out with the child paying the price. But I would not kill every snake I saw, I would hold the parents responsible!!! It is sad and tragic...

Good grief - have you ever heard "when you play with fire, you get burned"? It is not disrespectful - if you want to have whacked religious beliefs, go for it, but don't look for sympathy when you get burned. I AM sorry the child instead of the people responsible got hurt, and I do not believe a child deserved to be the victim. I certainly do have family with whacked religious beliefs, and I have no sympathy for them either...

Why should it be? Please allow this thread to be an educational one and not end up hurting someone.

In reference to your last reply concerning the Brown's, please read the Old Testament of the Bible and you will find out why they handled snakes and drank poison. They believe in the same God that I believe in, and; the same God that is believed in by all christian people. I'm certainly not going to voice an opinion of whether it is right or wrong just that I choose not to handle the snakes or drink the poison. They have a very strong faith based on the Bible and are very much alive today.

Faith and belief is taught and learned and it is the responsibilities of not only parents but the adults which surround the children. It is my belief that only I know whether or not I have that much faith to handle a serpent. I still think I would cut a trail if one was handed to me to hold..poisonous or not!!!

As far as this child is concerned, I would hope it was an accident and not a test of faith by a group of adults knowing what the outcome would possibly be.

The man who died was a grown man. His wife died first from a snake bite, leaving John & their children alone. Then he got bit & died. There was a fight over the kids.. The whole thing was so sad..
Still it was how he was raised.. Tragedy all the way around....
