The staff in this real estate agency are extremely unprofessional and are out for all the money they can scrounge from the public. Beware.

From being in Hampton, VA for my entire life and renting from Bellkey for many years I am more than pleased with the staff in the office. I always feel very welcome in the office everyone there is very professional and welcoming. I plan to continue my business with them and would never change companies.

As the owner of a business that rents from Bell Key I find the first review really misleading. Bell Key's owners are amazing. I opened my photography business very near to them and every time I see them they are wonderful. They know not only my name but also the names of my children. Any issues I have they are quick to fix the RIGHT way. Personally I consider myself very lucky to rent from people who care! I send my friends and clients to them all the time!

You can tell that lady was one of those that trashes a house then gets ticked they don't get their deposit back! Bellkey are great people. They really care about the people who rent from them!

After signing a lease for 16 months with BellKey Properties I would have to agree with the first poster and recommend you do not rent from this company. We have had nothing but problems from this company and they are very rude and unprofessional. I also have to agree that they do anything in their power to get more money out of you, but will take their sweet time getting back to you when it involves a problem you need resolved. The first problem we had was our kitchen sink was leaking, now this is not my property so if you want to take a month to get the plumbers out here and get the problem resolved well more power to you, however I do not think the property owner would like this too much. Not to mention the sink sprayed us everytime we turned the sink on. Next was our air conditioner.... This was the problem from hell. Our air stop putting out cold air so we called a company and had them come check it out before we even contacted the rental agency, the ac repair company informed us that there was nothing we could have done to cause the problem that there were many units in this sub division that were having the same problem. So we went to bellkey informed them of the problem and they had someone come check it out. Still unaware that we already had it checked out they told us we broke it from running the air in the cold weather. Neddless to say they tried to get us to pay for it and thats when we told them we had already had it checked out so basically they got caught trying to get us for soem money. Didnt work! They have nice properties but the owner M.M is an arogent jerk!
glad to be away

I just finished a lease with them. Public BEWARE...the lease language is ambigous and outrageous about what the renter is to take care of out their own pocket. The lease agreements literally make you pay out of pocket for normal wear and tear or else they keep the deposit and charge extraordinary prices to 'fix'. They refused to take care of cockroaches,(inheirent in the environment) had a leak that was never fixed though it represented a serious safety issue. They were slow in returning phone calls if at all and always there was some excuse WHY or they lost the number (please!). Had a drain issue from the word go and was told to get liquid plumber to fix it. I am GLAD to be away from them. Had a problem with the a/c last summer when it was over 100 degrees outside and was told it wasn't an emergency don't call until Monday (uh, when the temp inside the house is 93 degrees with kids its not 'an emergency') then got the run around about when and who would fix it and nobody communicates from the office.
Long and short, they take your money, expect more than they should and then take the deposit because they have written the contract to mean anything they want.

I completley agree with post #5and 6. BellKey are a very shady and misleading company who takes full advantage of people. My family and I are getting treated horribly by them and feel like were stuck in a jail cell becuase of the lease. I could go on and on, but the fact is NEVER EVER sign a lease with this company.

i completely agree with all posts but mostly with 1, 5, 6 and 7. I've been a renter for 2 years now, and Bell key can be fabulous if they like you if they dont they are assholes. The staff cant stand M.M and they are obvious about it when they mock him either behind his back or right in his face. He is an arrogant jerk and believes that you believe everything he says he doesnt even realize that one CAN in fact see thru his B.S. They do not get things takin care of in a timely fasion..ever. For example where I am right now has a hole in the wall behind the fridge and is not visible, and my windows leak. I told them about it a month ago, still hasn't been fixed and was told it prob wont get fixed, even after i expressed my concern about my electricity bill. About the hole, I was told that there is no no way bugs or rodents can get through so there was no need to fix it. Unfortunately for me circumstances have forced me to stay with them, if I could rent somewhere else I would. Fortunately for me they like me so little problems do get fixed right away, problems that dont involve too much money out of their pockets like trimming doors or screwing on a new spay nozzle for the sink but anything else is pointless. However I suggest if you are renting from them play the game until you can move on because legally they can do it and you have to remember that M.M is full of crap (its sad but its who he is) and you want your full deposit back! GOOD LUCK and as you have read before BEWARE!

I totally disagree with all the negative comments. Most of these comments seem to come from people who rent and destroy property and blame it on others. I have been a renter for 8 years and they are the best company in Hampton Roads. The staff is very friendly and helpfull to all my needs and concerns. Being millitary, and having worked with many different companies, I can honestly say they are one of the best.
I dont know what you peoples problem is!

Bell key is horrible place to rent from. I am not one of those people who trash a house and get upset about it. I am a person that expects the property manger to keep up their end of a contract. We have had numerous problems with the place we rented from them and they never helped us. We have had our basement flood many times from the pump in the basement failing, and it took them over 3 months to even come look at it and almost another month to replace it. Also when we first moved in, they said they would be filling out heating oil tank, which they never did and it only lasted us about a month and now they expect us to fill it to the top. They are very against fulfilling the military clause part of the contract with out having to fight them and finally getting my commands legal involved. We have also had many problems with the roof developing cracking and some walls to but they are not interested in even checking it out. The staff is very unprofessional and the office only cares if they get the rent at the beginning of the month and they are not interested in helping you with any problems you will have with the property. the owner M.M is a horrible person and is not willing to help ANYONE! All i can say is renters/public BEWARE!

I was sorry to say goodbye, My 3 years renting for the wonderful company went so quickly. Thank you for finding us such a wonderful home! We loved our house and my wife and I are so sad we had to leave. Not only have you been a great property management company but I would also like to think of you as friends. Thanks again for all your efforts.

After reading the reviews of the company, I dont think it would be in my best interest to rent from Bell-key. I would really hate if my family and I had to experience the problems I have read.

I have been renting from bell key properties for the last three years and can honestly say I have recieve nothing less than satisfactory service and wonderful experiences. I can only speak for myself but I pay my rent on time and have no problems with this company.
It seems to me most bad reveiws and complaints are steming from those who were not responsible renters

I have been renting from Bell Key for 4 years now, I have to say Mike Myers, Annie , and Pam are the BEST ever. I was married to a military service man, and we divorced i was able to keep the property b/c we wanted our children to remain in the house they were use to living in. I was now a single mother with two living pay check to pay check, and The property managers understood my struggle and worked with me for months until I was able to get back on track, if you have been divorced then you will understand the financial struggle you go through during the divorce and after the divorce. When I have issues the job gets done with in days. I have never had a problem with Bell Key while under Mike Meyers management. I can only speak from my experience for the past 4 years. If you want respect give respect, and be honest. I love Bell Key property.

Thanks for all you do for me and my family.

They lost me as a responsible renter because they wouldn't disclose how much money was due upon move-in after I gave a deposit. Being in the military, money could not be available on the exact date (even after discussions with my TSGT), so we contacted them 30+ days ahead to say I couldn't take the place. Long story short, I couldn't get back a dime (even after calls with base legal dept). Not military friendly for single airmen.

I am having similiar issues. They do NOT call you back when the house has issues- they force you to follow up with them (unprofessional) and they do not fix issues with the houses quickly. The houses they rent are all older homes that are not maintained. When issues arise due to normal wear and tear (and due to their obvious lack of upkeep of the property over the years,) it takes them a long time to address the problems.

Prop. Mgmt. blames the fact that things aren't getting fixed on those they contract out to fix the problems. "Oh did (fill in the blank) not call you? Oh, we will follow up and call you back."

Yet they never do. This may go on for months as a warning...

Fact: old homes fall apart over time
Fact: homes require upkeep
Fact: Prop. Mgmt. needs to put money INTO their properties in order to maintain them

I have a friend that rents from them and they are having similiar isses (older home that has a lot of "band-aids" vs. real solid fixes for the older home's issues.)

Fact: Property Managers "Manage" the property. The owner is the one who decides to "put money" into it.
As a renter, I maintain as much of the home as I can myself. Just as if I own a home. I am the one living in it.

All potential renters in the Hampton Roads area. I beg you and I plead with you don't ever rent property from Bell Key Properties. They are the worst rental property management company in the Hampton Roads area. Mike Myers is strictly driven by every red cent that he can obtain from his renters and NOT the interest and well being of his renters. I am speaking from first hand experience in dealing with him over the last couple of months. I have met a lot of dirty, tricky and scheming individuals but he takes it to a whole new level. He is slow to respond to the needs of his renters BUT expect their rent money to be on time each and every month. His lease agreement is written so that you will never receive your full security deposit back at the end of your lease agreement. Again, ALL potential Hampton Roads Renters STAY away from Bell Key Properties for your own best interest. I am warning you in ADVANCE.
