Haunted places in Newport

DHS office has lots of ghosts. It used to be the old Harris Hospital. Also I heard the third floor of the courthouse is haunted. Can't verify this one.

I heard that the court house used to be a mental hospital and was also haunted. I don't know how true that is. Anyone else know?

Oh, also heard that they had done hangings there to...once again, any info?

Heard that the old Dillingers building is. No confirmation on that one either though.

The Jacksonport courthouse was a mental hospital once. It was also a poorhouse where people were tortured and killed.

I knew a family that stayed about 2 weeks. Never would say why they really left but I had my suspicions. All they would say was they would never be back in there. Go Figure.

I grew up in jacksonport .. between the court house and the stories my brother told me about "old man pretty" .. I was scared to go outside after dark alone ..

not to mention (imma sound crazy).. but ppl have told me that they have seen and heard keith around jacksonport ..i just wish that I was one of those ppl ..

I love that building .. when it was for rent once I wanted to rent it but my kids wouldn't let me ...

Haha, I'm not really sure. But in Kentucky, I visited this barn-turned-restaurant with real animals there. It is said to be haunted by a young girl who died in a bad bareback riding accident. And then there's a jail cell in Marbury (i think) and its now a restaurant. You eat, in, the jail cell where nutty people once where. The first place is haunted by a bareback rider and the second MAY BE by old residents of the jail cell.

I didnt want to say nothing cause i thought it was just that i was so use to him being there. But i have "felt" him there. Also that tidwell man i cant remember his first name.

I don't know how haunted it is but me and a couple of my buds used to go to the sands to the old cemetery that's out there. We'd always go around 11 or midnight. People told us that red eyes could be seen but we never saw them. We did hear noises a lot tho that we couldn't explain. Almost all of the tombstones have dates from the 1800's on them. Once there were human's backbones and ribs hanging out of the dirt wall of the road that goes through. And then when someone took them there was a hip sticking out. There was a skull on a stick but wasn't there the next time we went. We haven't been there in years, so I don't know whats out there now.

Going toward Jacksonport from Newport, take the last right before you get to the turnoff entering Jacksonport. This road takes you back around to Diaz. Once you are on this road it will start to curve to the right and there will be a gravel road on your left, take it. Cross the RR tracks then take the first left. Go just a little ways and the road will curve to the right which will actually be detouring around the cemetery. You will have to park and walk in from the other side since the road that used to go thru it has been blocked off.

i have heard of "red eyes" from that cemetary from older people (70 ish)!! I also saw pictures of a human skull that had washed up from one of the graves.

the old blue bridge is haunted. when they built it in 1922 a man fell in one of the supports and they had to keep pouring concrete to prevent a weak spot. he is there today.

Funny, I heard the same story for the Mackinac bridge going to the UP in Michigan. SAME story. Don't know how viable it is...
