Cupid the calf, the newest and youngest resident at Farm Sanctuary, has been making headlines across the West Coast due to his brave escape from a slaughterhouse-bound truck near Turlock.

Ewwwwwwww . Kind of makes me want to turn vegatarian
I saw a news report last night about a slaughter-house
in Chino where the animals were being abused.
They were being shocked, beaten, even moved around and dumped with a forklift because they were to ill to walk.
This slaughter-house is a main supplier of beef that
is sold to local schools the report said.
If the animals were that sick or injured thet should not ne used for food. They should just be destroyed humainly
and disposed of. The slaughter-house should just cut their losses plain and simple. Do they? No! The cheap S.O.B's
mix it into our food. The report said they fired two people over the incident ... whoopee, two people.
The whole operation should be shut down as an example.

"Brave escape", give me a break, it is a calf. It did not escape because it knew it was going to a slaughterhouse. The veal industry might kill 800,000 claves a year, but that is the VEAL industry not the dairy industry. Dairymen and women make their living from our calves surviving. After 27 years in the dairy business, I have never seen a dairy that kept its calves in pens that small, once again that would be the VEAL industry.
Gestation cages are for sows giving birth. They are used to keep the sow from rolling over onto the piglets, they actually save the lives of the little ones from being squished to death by their own mothers. Sows are kept in them for very short periods of time. Once again, because the farmer cannot make a living if their sow is crippled and lame.
As for the chickens, I don't have any. They are not good to have on dairies. Since I have no first hand knowledge I cannot make a comment on them, and I refuse to make a judgement off of just what I have seen on TV.
As a society we need to research things before we say something that is not right, and that research needs to be complete, ie information from both sides of the fence.
The one thing I do know, is that there will always be people that have never been on a farm, telling farmers how to do their jobs better. To those people, I say, stop buying the things we farm, that way we will go out of business. Of course, then again, what woould you eat and wear?

Gestation crates are used for pregnant pigs BEFORE they give birth. Sows are typically housed in these crates for the entire duration of their pregnancy - almost 4 months. Gestation crates do not help protect piglets from being crushed.
The crates used for housing sows who have given birth are called farrowing crates, not gestation crates. Because farrowing crates do help to prevent piglets from being crushed by their mothers, they are exempted from the ballot initiative.
I suggest that you research things before you post something that is not right.
