A poorly researched article dedicated to a false premise - that the "common man" or noble savage can enter into any situation and decide properly what should be done. The fact that most "town meetings" are attended by less than one percent of the population and "packed" with self serving voters or shills is neglected . In addition is the fact that most meetings are run undemocratically and often violating the 1st amendment.-- Which should not be surprising since almost every survey ever done of the common american asking if they approve of various Constitutional amendments show that most Americans do not even know they already are an existing part of our Constitution and political culture.
The result is runaway school budgets, inefficient municipal town governments, croynism and small and large corruption. It has been said that a politician gives people what they want, a statesman what they need. Democracy has a very sharp edge and "town meetings" allow serious long term decisions to be made without thought, honest unbiased information or reason.
