Finally, some dumbass tree huggers get a dose of reality.

Greenpeace activists hit out at detention conditions
Geneva (AFP)- Three of the Greenpeace activists held in Russia following a protest against Arctic drilling have given an insight into their detention conditions in comments published Sunday, with one complaining he was kept in isolation in a cold cell.

Oak Hill, WV is one of the poorest places in America..... The poverty rate is around 18 percent and the median income is very low. In such places it is not uncommon for poor people to....... scavenge coal from alongside the roads where it falls off coal trucks. Whenever the state DOT catches an overloaded coal truck, they make the driver dump the excess coal beside the road. People scavenge it clean within a few hours. That happens all over Appalachia.
Just like the gleaners in the Bible. Coal companies & their upper crust paper shufflers & people shovers( who get millions in bonus, retirement & stock options) pay their workers so little, the citizens of the state have to scavenge. The coal companies pay little to the state gov'ts because they have them in their back pockets & carry the profits away to other regions of the world.

Voices from the coalfields:

From Pikeville, KY:

“Don't let anyone tell you that Obama doesn't have a hand in this rigging of the market. As have hope just summarized nicely: several years ago, Chesapeake Energy gave the Seirra club about 26 million dollars to launch a campaign in Washington to put coal out of business. Seirra club did get caught with their pants down (and in bed with naty gas) during a hearing. Thats a big reason why they have turned on naty gas, to save face. Look it up people. With the added enviromental pressure in play and the sudden drop in price of natural gas, the coal companies were set up for a difficult time. See, utility companies can "switch" thier plants between coal or gas depending on what is cheaper at the time. When the utilities switched to naty gas, Obama seized the moment and began placing regulations via the epa on these plants, forcing them to purchase expensive fittings to switch back to coal. So, Obama made coal not worth spending the money for, and that is what weve been seeing in this area over the last couple years.
However, one must remember that there is a reason we havn't been using naty gas all along; with the exception of the past couple years, natural gas is an expensive energy. The price can only go up, while coal will stay the same. Yes, this means with no coal......your electric bill will go up a lot over the next decade. Obama, knowing that utilities will eventually buy thos retrofits, is seeking to place regulations on coal burning plants so heavy that they are currently unable to meet the with the available technology we have. If that isn't rigging the system then I don't know what is.
But, once again there is hope! Several plants that can actually burn coal cleaner then naty gas are popping up! So, once again, we have a fighting chance. Just remember folks, Washington is in bed with natural gas.....so yes, they are against us. When will you really see coal pick back up? In 2016 when we get the current administration out of Washington, hopefully.”

From Elkhorn City, KY:

“I agree, but the environmentalists and the politicians have helped to create this.
Coal is still in these hills and the surveyors and the mine companies and the greed knows exactly where it is.
I am with you and would love to see a big coal boom and a back to work call for every laid off friend and relative.
Maybe one day the demand will come back, as soon as some politician out there can figure out a way to line their own pocket from the flow of cash, it will.”

Any way from nature:

Advance warnings of heatwaves would be especially useful in large cities, says Marshall Shepherd, an atmospheric scientist at the University of Georgia in Athens.“Heat waves can be particularly amplified in urban areas,” he says.“If you had a couple of weeks notice, you could mobilize cooling stations and adjust resources to mitigate mortality and morbidity,” and power companies could plan for increased demand driven by air-conditioner use.

Because extreme heatwaves happen only once every few years, the researchers turned to computer climate models to look for signals that foreshadow a severe hot spell. Led by Haiyan Teng, a climate scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado, the scientists examined 2,300 heatwaves from 12,000 years’ worth of simulated US weather.“The really great thing is that they were able to leverage those model runs to get good statistics,” says Siegfried Schubert, a meteorologist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, who is collaborating with Teng and her team on a related project.

The analysis revealed that major heatwaves were four times more likely to develop after a strong wavenumber-5 system formed at mid-latitudes. Teng says that this particular pattern can stagnate, leading to slow-moving high-pressure zones that can produce prolonged heat.

P.S. Makes sense to report weather without country borders.
