the burg like many towns and cities killed them selvs along with help from the state high taxes drove the factories and shops out both from the state and local leavels.
and the pd and town boards have waited to long on drugs and crime both have passed the point of no return years ago, my dad used to tell me stories of taking the fairy to the burg to shop see a film and to dances the fairy might be back beacon might have made a step up by one or 2 rungs on the lader but a come back to fomrer glory or a new vison of glory ya right

Hey! People worked really hard to get this position on the list. You don't get to be mentioned like this without effort. Just look at census tract 4! You think it got that way by itself? Oh no! That took a lot of hard work to make it look that way. And to think that all those hardworking people managed to make the entire city that way? No that's the true Newburgh spirit of hard work and success.

The current administration has made progress, there is no doubt. But there are still days when I feel like just walking away from my house and renting a little apartment somewhere where I can get some peace. Newburgh is filled with people of all shades who have led miserable lives for so long that they can't imagine that it could be different. The trash, the blaring taxi horns at all hours, the wild, unsupervised children at all hours of the night, the gunfire, the obvious social problems. My little rowhouse in the Heights is surrounded by rentals that six years on only continue to decline while the absentee landlords suck out the profits. Yet, the city is proposing to release large portions back to multifamily zoning. Incredible. Anybody know of a Messiah who can lead us out of this? Nothing less will suffice, I'm afraid.

in the fifties it was noted in Life magazine as one of the best !0 places in the country to live. What has happened to Newburgh is a testimony to what happens when you allow welfare to take over a city - its pitiful and unnecessary - there should be some serious headcracking over the condition that the current residents have put those lovely old homes in
Shame on you all

a far cry from the late 1950s when newburgh was voted by life magazine as ONE OF THE TEN BEST PLACES IN AMERICA TO LIVE- shame on those who have brought it down by their slovenliness-how far poor newburgh has fallen -

I've started to look for a house in Newburgh. It is a tale of two cities. Some areas show great progress, others are dismal. A property I saw in the Heights has been terribly vandalized. People have used the front yard to dump TVs and other garbage that costs to dispose of, and some crackhead had set up a den in the upstairs bedroom, spent cigarette lighters and other debris left behind. If I were a neighbor in the abutting houses, I'd certainly be very, very concerned. One spark from the crack pipe and there goes the house and probably the ones next to it, if not the block. Why the owner (a bank) has virtually left these conditions to fester is part of what's wrong. It certainly put me off the Heights in that area, which is unfortunate, for the potential is great there. I hope you hang tough and conditions improve.
