I'm looking to work at a restaurant and need some opinions on some. I'm thinking about serving, but never served before so are there any places that train? Has anyone worked at these places and do they hire a lot?

Friday's train people who have no experience in serving. They have a training program that lasts like a week. You'll be tested over the menu, drinks, and work behind a server that trains you. There was a high turnover rate when I was there and it's probably still like that, so you could probably walk in tomorrow after lunch hour and fill an application out, speak to a manager and land the job on the spot since they ALWAYS need servers. I worked there as a waitress a few years ago and they hired literally anybody that walked in the door. Some were good employees, some were straight trash. Some people would come to work drunk, high, f*cked up and nothing would be done about it.
I remember one guy would meet his drug dealer there and they would always front like he was just there to eat. SMH. I can go on about some other crazy stuff and politics that went on there but I'll leave it at that. I don't know about those other places but you can gain serving experience at Fridays. You will serve a variety of people and after working here for sometime it's always good to move on to better, expensive restaurants. You WILL make more money that way.

Old thread, but I'm also thinking about working in a restaurant too. I always see that Red Robin is hiring on Craigslist, but I'm not sure if that is a good thing. Maybe that means no one can keep a job there?

This place was crazy as hell. If you are a conservative, uptight person you really won't enjoy your time here. The staff and managers can be very unprofessional, inappropriate, and negative. If you can't take non-PC, sexual, sometimes racist jokes....not the place for you.
Some of the managers were weird (in a creepy, evil, disgusting way). Some employees were trying to hook up with some managers.
You would work long double shifts WITHOUT breaks. The hosts only got breaks, but servers didn't. Yes, they do hire a lot of people who probably can't get hired anywhere else. I mean in a way that's not ALWAYS a bad thing. There was a server that had tattoos all over her face and had to support her children. She had to make money some way. Beats welfare anyday. No good business would hire someone who looked like that.
Scheduling is a bitch. Good luck getting a certain day off or finding someone to take/switch your shifts. Don't get me started on those "corporate visits". People would freak out thinking they would lose their jobs if something was "off" or went wrong. I never gave 2fcks.

I worked as a server at T.G.I. Friday's last year. Business was always slow.
