just another reason why the elderly should be given a drivers exam once they hit a certain age. if granddad can't see he shouldn't be driving a '78 buick.

A reflex test should also be administered to older adults, if they do not pass it they DO NOT drive. I am not that old, but I know better that to drive at night when I have trouble seeing.

Judging by the accidents that occur, problems seem to be among drivers too old AND too young--they both need more intensive driving instruction.

Im praying for all of my J.F.R band mates that were hurt today. I love you guys and I know you'll be okay! The Rhodes Rams Band is a family and we're all going to stick together. I love you all and I will be praying for all three of the students and of course the beloved band Mom! We are all her children basically and I love her to death! Your in my thoughts and prayers.:)

If you have a handicapped sticker in your car, you probably shouldn't be driving anyway. It usually means you have something physically wrong with you so that can only hinder your reflexes in the event of an accident. I agree with the other posters, start testing older drivers after the age of 60. If they can't drive, give them a free bus pass.

I agree to a point. Young drivers need more intensive training. So do the older ones. But as a person ages, reflexes, and reaction time slow down. So the idea of older aged drivers getting tested once a yr is a good one. If my parents were still alive they would be nearly 100 yrs. If you have elderly parents, and if you are concerned about their driving habits, make arrangements to have them tailed some time, or get in the car with them, and let them drive. If you don't like what you see, have a talk with them. Express your concerns, about their driving habits. The lives you safe, might be theirs.

And just who is going to pay for the free bus pass?

I think ALL driver's need to be retested before receiving a license renewal...every 4 years. Age doesn't really matter if you do not have good judgement, good reactions during unexpected events which occurs often while driving, and good vision.

If we had a policy such as the above there would be a lot less needless accidents on the roadways and insurance premiums would prob. go down as well.

How and the hell are there no charges!!I was one of the band members and I seen it.The man stopped when he pulled in and then bumped them off the speed bump they were sitting on stopped again and then ran over the speed bump and ran everybody down! One member got his head ran over and one girl was in so much shock that she didn't notice a bone was broken until 10 or 15 minutes later.I'm not so much sure about the other two though. But trust me if the law doesn't charge him with something then the law is going to have some seriously pissed off student on their hands!

the main point here is a bad situation got out of hand and people were not watching where they were going... this gentleman should not have been in the parking lot in the first place... its not about the drivers license or old or young,,, let's say our prayers that these band members and their families will be ok and wish for a full and safe and speedy recovery.

New legislation is being presented this week that could curtail many accident's. I hope it passes and there is stricter guidelines in every state for new driver's..and for license renewals.

It seems like in the last 6 months there have been so many young people killed in car accidents.

It's clear something needs to be done to stop this from happening so often.

What happened to the parade? Did the parade take place or was it postponed?
