We have reached peak oil. There is no more new supply The US is at the mercy of foreign oil. The only solution is to get off oil and develop green technologies.
You can't drive an SUV, keep your lights on all night, then bi/tch about the price of oil. Actions have consequences.
you must live at work or have way too much money to not be guilty of your own statement... must be nice

Name one conservative leader that says to conserve. Did Bush say it? All we hear is drill drill drill from the right.
So don't give me this "Oh we all want to conserve" baloney. We all know better.
I paid about a $3000 premium for my hybrid. Instead of driving my truck 15000 miles year, I drive my car. I hit that break even point after 3 years.
But what about all you patriots out there. Patriot this & patriot that except when it might cost you a dime. Why not conserve oil even if it might cost you a little more. If you drive 700 miles a month, you will pay for the extra.
If we all drove gizzlers, the demand would go up & the cost even higher. If we all conserved, then the demand would be lower & the price would come down.
Government subsidies will build volume. Volume will drive innovation & lower costs thru volume.
But Grumps, you gave the best reason for Cap & Trade. People won't do squat unless you make it about their wallets. We say "Help this country" and you say "What's in it for me".
Dave, The price of something will determine if it is conserved or not. When gas is more expensive people can choose to drive less, invest in a higher MPG vehicle, or maybe choose to spend more on gas. But what you do not see is that it is free people making a choice. You want to impose your choices on a free people. The government will tell you what kind of light bulb you can purchase, how much water will come out of your shower, what kind of dish washer you can purchase, on & on. Your basic assumption is that people are too stupid to make their own decisions, and that the government must tell them what to buy.

This country was founded on freedom. We are loosing freedom every year, and slowly turning into a Nanny State where everyone will look to the government to take care of them.

There's the difference Davey boy. I watch Pelosi and Reid and Mr. Obama and listen to NBC, CBS, ABC And CNN. I read the the New York Times and the Washington Post. I know what the left alleges and what their justifications are. I also occasionally watch Beck and FOX News and read some of what the right has to say. In other words I am familiar with both sides of the debate unlike you who made up what passes for a mind long ago and can see no alternatives except the leftist hate Bush line. No who is the idiot?

People are too stupid. We have seen the price of gasoline rise to the point of adverse effects on our economy.

You assume that there is going to be a gradual rising of prices to allow for the developmet of higher mpg & for people to buy higher mpg cars as they fit more into their being cost effective.

We have seen that this is not the case. We have seen demand, market factors drive the price to $4 a gal. this was not gradual. People could not just run out & buy hybrids.

A black cloud forms over the ocean & the price goes up in fear of a hurricane affecting production.

Right now, a terrorist attack in a major oilfireld, more war in an oil rich nation, an oil embargo, would cripple this country.

We know for a fact that oil will run out. A kid getting his driver license today is likely to see it in his lifetime.

WE know demand globaly will increase as undeveloped countries become more developed.

It is just plain stupid not to plan for it. To sit back & see if the market will keep up with the upcoming changes.

Your plan is to do nothing. You think that the market will change gradually & bring about conservation naturally. We have already seen this is false.

Why not plan for the inevitable. Why not offer subsidies for fuel efficiency, systems that move away from oil - building volume & pushing innovvation & creating violume for price reductions.

Don't these things utilize the free market to make our futures better? What is wrong with the government looking out for our future?

Everybody must understand that shipping 400 billion outside our borders ebvery year for oil is not good for our economy. Everyone.

Everyone must know that our requirement to import oil is a national security isssue.

Yet they don't conserve oil. Why? Is the answer always "Whats in it for me'?

Glenn Beck is an uneducateed entertainer. You might a well said that I don;t ewatch Bozo the Clown.

This is your & your ilk's problem.

You can't identify a reliable source & a man putting on an act to make money.

BTW, are you saying that Bush did not wage two wars on the credit card, put in a 1.3 trillion dollar unfunded tax cut, double the national debt? He wasn't President & his administration had nothing to do with the near financial meltdown or the recession?

This is not just a hate Bush anything - its called the truth. Your team sucked. They nearly killed this country. Your Party. And yet you defend them. And that makes you an idiot.

Thanks Dave. BTW I don't think that your intelligence rises much above the level of an amoeba. You totally miss the point. You brag about not watching or listening to anything the right has to say and yet you disagree with them solely based on who they are and their basic beliefs. But you DON'T KNOW WHAT THOSE ARE! You are a stupid bigoted narrow minded jerk and you demonstrate it every time you post and brag about your disdain for anything that doesn't fit your preconceived notion of reality. And you have the nerve to call anyone else an idiot? You are a
quasi-intellectual coward with a keyboard. Nothing more.
