DRIGGS, Idaho - Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann on "Gilligan's Island," is serving six months' unsupervised probation after allegedly being caught with marijuana in her car.

She was sentenced Feb. 29 to five days in jail, fined $410.50 and placed on probation after pleading guilty to one count of reckless driving.

Under a plea agreement, three misdemeanor counts — driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance — were dropped.

On Oct. 18, Teton County sheriff's Deputy Joseph Gutierrez arrested Wells as she was driving home from a surprise birthday party that was held for her. According to the sheriff's office report, Gutierrez pulled Wells over after noticing her swerve and repeatedly speed up and slow down. When Gutierrez asked about a marijuana smell, Wells said she'd just given a ride to three hitchhikers and had dropped them off when they began smoking something. Gutierrez found half-smoked joints and two small cases used to store marijuana.

The 69-year-old Wells, founder of the Idaho Film and Television Institute and organizer of the region's annual family movie festival called the Spud Fest, then failed a sobriety test.

Wells' lawyer, Ron Swafford, said that a friend of Wells' testified that he'd left a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle after using it that day, and that Wells was unaware of it. Swafford also said several witnesses were prepared to testify that Wells had very little to drink at the party and was not intoxicated when she left. He said she was swerving on the road because she was trying to find the heater controls in her new car.

I went to court 4 years. She wanted money i wanted the boys she left for my bf. The beach signed up for stamps and a check on the boys.She was gone for year and a half. I told them i hadthe boys and she didn't help with them. Even took the boys up there and gave no. and names of several witneses.They garn. my wages. She got the money and i have primary split costody.I have to pay support how fff n wrong is that? Good ole Mo.

I was once in a situation like the one discussed her. I had a girlfriend that got pregnant it was both of our faults - we were young with little guidance from our homes or schools. Of course my parents talked to me about the birds and the bees but not heart to heart about what the consequences were on into life. Everyone makes mistakes - I paid cs for 18 yrs carried insurance and the whole nine yrds. Reguards of how I feel about the whole thing, now that I am older I can hold my head high because I did what was right for the child. You may ask what a the relationship of father and daughter - it is and always has been a disaster and mostly non existant - even now - A little wisdom to you all if child support is a big worry for how do you feel about contracting HIV or Herpes. I say to you the best thing is abstinence then common sense for those who can't wait. If you make your bed lie in it and quit your crying - TAKE RESPONSIBILTY FOR ALL YOUR ACTIONS. There are great women in TN - I have had one of them for 25 yrs.

I have lived in Newbern most of my life, was raised here and went to school here. From early on my parents instilled values in me to be independent and to get a good education so that I would not have to depend on a man to suppport me and my future children all my life. I am proud to say, that I got my college education, waited til I was ready to get married and have children. Now I am back in Newbern, and have two beautiful children. My husband is no longer with us but not by either of our choices. I have never recieved any type of government help or child support, I work full time and I am a full time single female parent who is independent and self-sufficient. I know of several other women in Dyer County who are single and self sufficient without any type of assistance from anyone. Not all women are after a check from the government and a man. Who really needs a man when you can do it yourself?

If men would start thinking with the right head, they wouldn't find themselves in this situation. Not only do you make yourselves vunerable to getting someone pregnant, but without protection, you exposing yourself to a lot worse than a big child support payment. But I've never seen a man who was concerned with any of this when they are ready to hop in the sack. So take responsibility for your mistakes and stop blaming someone else. Takes two to tango, ya know.

If women don't want to take care of their kid, they can always put it up for adoption. That's how women get out of taking care of a kid. Men don't have that luxury.
