The tourist train, is only a part of the plan. To ease traffic congestion on Hwy 99W (aka Hwy 18), a group of businesspeople, Senator Gary George, elected officials and private citizens are hoping that not only can they get tourist trains running (from Portland to Spirit Mountain Casino in Grand Ronde), but they hope that the trains will double as commuter trains. That means that the trains will attract additional tourists to the area; as well as help ease the massive HWY 99W traffic congestion, which many times is stop-n-go, bumper-to-bumper.
