I am sick and tired of the way Sherwood police harass average working citizens of Sherwood. There are way too many officers, so obviously they get bored. And yes, they do have a quota. I'll never believe they don't. Everyone I've spoken to in Sherwood confirms that they get extremely expensive tickets for contrived offenses. My sister has never been pulled over in 20 years and was just given a ticket for $260 supposedly running a stop sign. The concept of her running a top sign is preposterous. And $260 for a first-time ticket? They also used to stop my friend who was walking, yes walking, home from the bus stop all the time. His crime? He's black! OMG!! They also showed up to another acquaintance's house because his baby was crying. Next on "Crimes of the Century!" The motorcycle cop always hides on people's personal propery. Tacky. They sit at the Safeway and run license plates as well. This is just ridiculous. There's no excuse for their behavior.

Yeah, my cousin got pulled over for a passenger not wearing a seat-belt, it happened to be his big dog cody. I agree, sherwood police officers are way too bored, but I'd rather have bored police than a high crime rate!:)

Sorry but I had to read these comments and laugh. I don't care about the Sherwood Police either way. But let me get this straight..One guy forgets his insurance card and the Police are wrong. A woman runs a stop sign in which the Cop will have to testify to all the details and we have to take the word of the poster that the "The concept of her running a top sign is preposterous"? I guess the fact that thousands of kids that are killed every year by people is preposterous. And to the one with the dog not wearing his seatbelt...he should feel lucky he did not get the summons he should have gotten for having the animal in a pet container which is the law although it never seems to be enforced much. hey just don't call them when you need then if you dislike them so much. Hey just saying...

There are reasons to that, police's motivation and practice have changed. It's not just Sherwood, but everywhere you go. Sherwood polices maybe more extreme because it's a small town with a big city government.
But the main reason that police are being such ass holes because of the "BAD ECONOMY". Government offices from any level are running on a low budget. So in order to keep their job, polices are out to raise money by micro-enforcing the traffic laws and citing every little mistake. That's the easiest and fastest way to raise money to save their asses. They need to understand that when economy goes south, people are affected, too. Why forcing people into a deeper financial hole and jeopardizing their insurance. Have some compassion when you are citing people for little errors. We, the teachers, workers and etc, are losing our job every day. Why being so coward abouting losing your job?

I just don't know about the Sherwood Police Department.
I live in an apartment in Sherwood. An 18 year old loser moved in next door to me and started dealing pot out of his apartment with his friends from day 1. I complained to my management 3 times in total and got absolutely no where. I called my attorney and he told me there is nothing I can do about it except to move out. I am doing that this month. Last summer this kid managed to piss off a couple of bad looking dudes coming over to either get drugs or do business of some sort dealing with drugs. I watched this kid go running out of his apartment at 1:00 a.m. pissing down his leg in fear. Good! I thought, maybe he won't continue to deal out of his apartment, these people coming around are really scary and I didn't feel safe living here. He did not give up though. I eventually had to call the police a few times. Here is why I am so frustrated with the police:
They began a public survielance of this 18 year old loser's apartment and responded by doing a sweep of his apartment looking for drugs, but to no avail. They found nothing. Then they arrested 3 different people that were visiting this 18 year old losers apartment(I don't know why), but never arrested the 18 year old loser. So he kept dealing and smoking pot out of his apartment. He caught on to the cops surveilance routine and reacted to that by having two friends on the "look out" for cops when he and his friends were smoking or dealing. One would stand at one end of the street and the other friend would stand a few blocks away, both had cell phones and both stayed in contact with the 18 year old loser while they were dealing pot or smoking at the apartment. They had the cops beat hands down! They were so comfortable with their illegal activities that they even felt comfortable enough to smoke pot out on the front porch where our apartments sit on a main drag that cops drive by every hour of every day! They knew the cops routine better than the cops did. It was disgusting to watch. Then one day I got mad from inhaling all their second hand pot smoke and called the cops AGAIN and of course the cops were "too busy" to respond as usual, so I got upset with the 18 year old and told him off. I had every right to do so, so I thought. What I learned that day is this kid ran to his even bigger loser relative's house, who apparently works in corrections(with kids no less!) and this guy came over and tried to intimidate me by running up to my front door like he was going to break it in. I called the police and they came out, excused him for his behavior and gave the 18 year old loser a pat on the back and the department's phone number for future use just in case I give him a hard time about doing illegal drugs again! I couldn't believe it. I spoke to one of the cops afterwards and his excuses for what he did were lame and illogical! He told me that I had no right to say anything to this kid and his relative was "just visiting" so his behavior was excusable. I am so pissed off over this. Do they really think that I am going to trust them EVER AGAIN??? I have no respect for these two cops after all this. It makes me think that this is a classic case of the "Good Ol Boy" club problem that still exist's and now I have even less trust for the Sherwood Police thinking about how they arrested 3 people out of this 18 year old loser's apartment, but never the 18 year old loser, why because of his violent relative that works in corrections with other kids? This is just wrong on so many levels to me. I will never trust this police department again, but I am curious about how others would see this same situation, a fresh pair of eyes is always welcome. Maybe in time I will feel differently, but for the Sherwood Police Department--Never!

Well keep on laughing...till they get your butt for 300 bucks one of these days. I support our police but we should not be dogged and harrassed about every little thing. That is what they do in countries known as police states. We all make small mistakes in course of our days and we shouldn't be paying thru our noses. The police is here for us, we don't exist because of them. So let's get "human" in that department. It seems like giving guy a warning doesn't exist anymore. I do realize that police have tough jobs, even though I am not sure how tough it is in Sherwood, OR.

I am quite concerned over the actions of the Sherwood Police. This is evidenced during one of the City Council meetings when a resident asked the City council some pointed questions concerning the budget and use of City funds and the Police Chief slightly rose with his hand towards his weapon, like this person was going to somehow lunge towards the council who was 6 feet away behind tables before the Chief could stop her. I would say this qualifies as intimidation. Somehow after that the tape of the meeting was conveniently "lost" or some such thing. I have known for a long time (long before the economy tanked) that Sherwood police spend a great deal of time and money (check out their vehicles) on traffic enforcement. There should be a balance and they need to work on achieving that.

I lived a nightmare in Wildflower Village years ago with nuisance neighbors from hell. Cops did nothing but drive by. Gee, that was real helpful.

JEFF GROTH the current sherwood chief of police and he is an ass to say the least, he actually said in the sherwood gazette that using intimidation and violence against people who disagree with the city council is acceptable. He did not phrase it like that of course, but he certainly let his pathetic low IQ and Ego show through that part of the article as he spoke. It was a sign of hatred and oppressiveness as far as I'm concerned and I have NO RESPECT for him or the Sherwood Police Department. I think they are a waste of money and anyone who does honest business in Sherwood is eventually going to see that about him and this extremely currupt police department. You are only seeing one side here, aren't you glad you don't have to work within this department? I wish I didn't. Glad I moved out of sherwood.

It just seems that the dept is judgmental towards the average tax payer. What I mean is, the PD folks have an attitude they they are always right and they are perfect and the citizens are the ones who are troubled. When an ordinary citizen needs to call the PD, its usually done under duress. The PD seems to have skipped that part of sensitivity education in their training. Sherwood is not Mayberry and there are a lot of problems. Hopefully soon, Jeff Groth will be out soon, based on legal reasons: no confidence, lack of community support, his aggressiveness, lack of kindness and sensitivity training, and leading a dept with low moral.

And besides, I really do question whenever any cop leaves the Sherwood PD for a lateral transfer to another PD. There has got to be deep problems currently within the Dept for a cop to take the same job in a nearby city. Good people are also moving out due to the intimidation tactics.

Hmmm...
Can't say that I've had any problems with the Tualatin PD. In fact, they all seem very professional and friendly, for the most part.
I think that they could, though, set up shop all day and write hundreds of "no turn on red" tickets from the Fred Meyer parking lot to east bound Nyberg (over by K-Mart). Incredible how many people simply DO NOT read the two signs and proceed to make the illegal turn.(There's going to be a major injury crash there soon, I bet.)
Keep up the good work, TPD, and I appreciate your efforts!

They are so "bored" that they came by our house last year when the door blew open and we weren't home. They searched and secured the house and let us know what happened. They help keep our neighborhood safe and arrive in minutes if there is a problem. We love our police officers in Sherwood!

A blown open door from the stupid owners who forgot to shut it is easier to tackle than teenage drug dealers....apparently. Ann you are a very stupid person. Thanks for sharing your mindless random thoughts.
