Two Republican lawmakers are planning a statewide ballot initiative to repeal the landmark gay rights law passed by the 2007 Legislature to prohibit discrimination in housing and employment based on sexual orientation. State Senator Gary George and state Representative Kim Thatcher, both of Newberg, have submitted a ballot title to state elections officials that would remove the gay rights law.

Idiots. Everyone deserves equal rights, only bigots would think otherwise.

When these two laws were debated in the house and senate last year, these two got a chance to have their say. Teh Oregon House and Senate disagreed with them, so now they are detirmined to show all their fellow House and Senate members that they know best and do not care what all the rest of the House and Senate thinks.

WE are ready for them. I do not think Oregonians will allow these two bills to be overturned.

I wonder what they will do nexy. Move out of state?

State Senator Gary George and state Representative Kim Thatcher should thank their lucky stars that they live in a country that does not discriminate against mentally deficient politicians. For that matter most of the politicians should be thankful.

Once again we have a republican fag trying to stamp out gay rights (not for sure but Gary looks queer IMO). So they want the right to be able to fire someone or deny them housing for being gay??? As for Kim - since when did Congress let bimbo's in?

The republicans have once again shown that they are NOT the party of freedom and civil rights. They fought civil rights legislation in the '60s (and are now trying to claim credit for it), and now an all out campaign of divisiveness.

I will never vote for a republican as long as they endorse such bigotry.

When will EVERYBODY understand that equal rights are not equal unless every citizen is entitled to them. We are not talking about someone with a history of sexually abusing a child asking to live where ever they like, just honest tax paying, hard working people that happen to love someone that is different than they would chose to OR ADMIT TO love.

Bigotry is where you find it, but so much of it seems to be Republican or Evangelical or both. We can all piss on their graves when they die, and they will die someday.

Move? One could only hope! But then again I pity the state they move to!
Oregonians will not tolerate this. I know this one won't!

Full Story is from The News Register. Blogs are great but seldom give much context. T fully understand the kind of man this guy is, the article is very revealing.

<<"As an employer, I don't wanna hear about it. This workplace is for work purposes. My advice to the gay community is shut up, just don't talk about it. If you walk around talking about what you do in the bedroom, you should be on the pervert channel."....

Contacted Friday, George said the comment had been wrenched out of context. He said he was referring to an incident in which one of the employees of his hazelnut operation complained that another worker was gay. Determining the gay employee hadn't even spoken about his sexual orientation, he told the complaining worker to get over it, he said.....

George said that the incident on his farm is indicative of his own live-and-let-live libertarian streak, which is plainly at odds with the bigotry he's being branded with. "To scream that we're just some sort of homophobes is just ridiculous," he said.....George leaves office, which he is scheduled to do voluntarily at the end of the year, >>

The "full story" I have seen is from a TV web site:

http://www.ktvz.com/Global/story.asp...

However libertarian Mr. George may be, the thrust of this post is that has sponsored legislation to repeal legal advances made by the gay community. If he were truly libertarian, and not just homophobic, I think we would have sponsored legislatin calling for the repeal of ALL civil rights laws. And I think he should have said that discussion of any kind of sex to be on the "pervert channel," not just gay sex as has been reported.

I do agree that many "stories" are truncated, twisted, or over reported to fit certain media's politics. Just look at Fox News.
