Retired bishop rejects traditional concepts

Full story: dailygleaner.canadaeast.com

There is no God, there is no heaven and there is no afterlife. At least, not in the way we have traditionally thought of such things. But when a retired bishop says it, it's worth noting. "My audience is not the people who go to church on Sunday morning," John Shelby Spong, the retired Episcopal bishop of Newark, N.J., said on a recent visit to Toronto ...

from dailygleaner:

"'We are related to the plankton, the cabbages and the great apes,' says Spong.

"Instead of the traditional concepts of heaven and hell, he takes a fresh reading of the Christian gospels ...

"But in the rejection of traditional Christian teachings, Spong occasionally veers into territory normally reserved for the likes of Richard Dawkins ...

"'I would much rather be in a dialogue with Richard Dawkins than (televangelist) Jerry Falwell,' Spong says."

Someone tell Spong that Falwell is dead and has been for some time now.

I guess book sales are slow for the arch heretic. He is out trying to drum up business.

I would have guessed Spong would prefer Dawkins, they both aren't Christian and should have much to discuss.

... by digging-up (the late) Jerry Falwell; that's one debate Spong will win as long as Jerry remains dead.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Gemini

You're in a very erratic mood today, making you restless, edgy and nervy. It may be almost impossible to settle to anything for long, because, as Mercury slows, you soon lose interest. If life becomes boring you'll want to liven it up in some way and it's likely you'll choose the most disruptive and controversial option you can think of, even though you know this will cause trouble.
