Three big biblical misconceptions

Three big biblical misconceptions

There are 6 comments on the CNN story from Dec 29, 2011, titled Three big biblical misconceptions. In it, CNN reports that:

The Bible is both a reservoir of spiritual insight and a cultural icon to which lip service is still paid in the Western world. Yet when the Bible is talked about in public by both believers and critics, it becomes clear that misconceptions abound.

To me, three misconceptions stand out and serve to make the Bible hard to comprehend ...

from CNN:

"First, people assume the Bible accurately reflects history. That is absolutely not so, and every biblical scholar recognizes it ..."

"absolutely"? This type of loaded language attempts to establish opinion as fact, and by using "every," Spong thinks he doesn't have to name his so-called "scholars".

"Jesus of Nazareth, according to our best research, lived between the years 4 B.C. and A.D. 30. Yet all of the gospels were written between the years 70 to 100 A.D ... and they were written in Greek, a language that neither Jesus nor any of his disciples spoke or were able to write."

Today the Bible is written in many other languages that Jesus and His disciples wouldn't have then understood, but how does that invalidate the gospel accounts today?

"The second major misconception comes from the distorting claim that the Bible is in any literal sense 'the word of God.' Only someone who has never read the Bible could make such a claim. The Bible portrays God as hating the Egyptians ..."

In Hebrew, to "hate" means "to love less," or did Bishop Spong fail it while he was in seminary?

I should have known from the headline that it was Spong. The liberals love to roll Spong out around the holidays so he can espouse his heresies in full view.

There are no misconceptions in the Bible, the reader himself is to blame for any misreadings or misunderstandings. John 17:17

God's word is not written to entertain but to give direction to misdirected people who want God's counsel and direction. 2 Timothy 3:16

Whenever Jehovah God sent a prophet or prophets to proclaim a specific happening it was to protect his obedient subjects from destruction and for them to remain obedient to Jehovah God. Amos 3:7

The proud and haughty did not listen or obey any warnings from Jehovah God. Same is true today, Jesus as reigning King in heaven, is going to destroy all wickedness and ungodliness on this earth, mankind has been continually warned since before 1914. The proud and haughty are not listening now either.

(Matthew 24:38-40). . .For as they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark;

39 and they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be.

Ah Jesus could and does speak every language known to us and those even unknown to us. He is the Lord!

Have you forgotten that the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit at the day of Pentacost?

There are misconceptions about the bible, such as:
Noah brought animals onto his ark seven at a time, and only brought "unclean" animals on two at a time.
The fruit Eve ate was not an apple.
etc.
