Are these dates correct? Why the long long delay? I was excited to read this as I want to take my kids on a trip around Lake Superior and didn't want to get a passport.

If they are correct, I have to use that cliched expression - "Our tax money at work".

I agree with koinll. Why do we have to wait 2 years for this to get done??? Government this and regulate that..... Just do it...

For the same reason it takes you 2 months to get a duplicate title to your vehicle - Incompetence at the highest level. Let me guess they'll need new machines to read the enhanced drivers license and it will take that long to get the bugs worked out and the system up and running and it will cost 3 X's as much as they anticipated.

This article only talks about re-entry into Minnesota. What about initial entry into Canada? Will I still need a passport to cross the border? If so, the extra $15 cost seems foolish.

i already have my passport - and dont travel to canada - so basically my license fees are going up $15 for nothing.

this should be an option.

i heard next year they are going to add guam, and the license fees will go up another $20.

"The new license option will cost an additional $15..." It is an option, if you don't want it you don't have to get it. So no fear.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat I need PAPERS? Once the libs in other states hear of this requirement, they will start boycotting Minnesota same way they are doing to Arizona for requiring PAPERS.....

As a Person of Heipanic heritage, I fully SUPPORT laws that require EVERYONE to HAVE and SHOW proof of citizenship, which is what this enhaced DL does...However, I DO NOT support laws like tghe one in AZ that single out just SOME people, at the discretion of a cop, for having to prove citizenship status...maye the enhanced DL mandatory AND require cops to ask to see it from EVERYONE they stop, detain or question...otherwise it is racial profiling

So if they ask everyone whats the problem? If you have nothing to hide, it should not be a problem.

Why don't you Americans just stay home? Please. You're not needed and you're certainly not wanted.

I use to go on a Fishing trip every year to Canada with 10 people. We quit going 2 years ago because the Canadian border patrol. Besides being complete jerks they can held us up two years in a row for 6 hours stripping our boats and cars. So now we spend our money in Minnesota.

What cave are you living in? You need to read these stories before posting so you look less like a fool.

"The passport requirement went into effect last June."

This is all part of the Homeland Security Act. Many of the terrorists that crashed the jets in 2001 came to the U.S. from Canada, some with forged documents.
