Rebuilding New York City

New York City was plunged into collective mourning following the September 11 attacks, and many people thought the city wouldn't recover its preeminence in the world.

This article captures the scene in NYC 2 years ago - on Sept. 11 I always find myself wanting to look back and reflect on how far we've come.

It's still a disgrace that it's been 8 years since the World Trade Center was destroyed, and the site is still nothing more than a huge hole in the ground with only a few steel beams starting to appear. The George Washington Bridge and the Empire State Building were built in a couple of years with 1920's/1930's technology, and the World Trade Center itself was built in not much more time than they were. Yet the current site is still years from completion, despite modern technology and construction methods. Not exactly New York City's shining achievement, or Mayor Bloomberg's.
