Actually, Mipp, it matters an awful lot. If he was doing nothing wrong, then he had nothing to fear. Sounds like you're in favor of defying the law.

By running, not only did he place his life in danger, he placed the lives of the women and kids in danger. And he placed the lives of the cops in danger. He got himself killed by his irresponsible actions.

And Crystall, as far as the cops being corrupt, maybe they wouldn't be if they didn't have to be on high alert every single minute because the community wants to enable druggies and lawbreakers instead of turning them in.

It's unfortunate that a youngman's life was lost. However until all the facts are out cooler minds need to prevail. All we truly know was the young had a warrant and a chase ensued into a home and the youngman was shot. Whether there was or wasn't a knife or police justification we the public don't know. Those present and involved know what happened and should talk without any influence or intimidation. This case should be fully investigated. Maybe a independent body should investigate the incident but that doesn't mean the cops or the family are going to be happy with the results. Justice means different things to different individuals. As a resident of the community I want the facts and hopefully a independent commission will be assembled to investigate. God bless all the families involved.

Don't even matter wasting your breath Tom, I've lived in Newburgh all my life and it's always someone else's fault. Forget the fact that this MAN attacked police officers who risk their lives everyday to protect us from the thugs of Newburgh. Everyone forgets that these officers also have families of their own that they would like to come home to. According to the news, the warrants were not for child support, they were for larceny, second-degree manslaughter, and substance abuse.

Bottom line people, cops are trained to shoot if their lives or the lives of others are in danger, and that's exactly what happened the second this man picked up the knife and went after them.

Wait a minute, so this guy wasn't just an irresponsible father who didn't want to pay for his kids, but he was wanted for killing someone as well?

Yep, Mipp and Crystall, keep defending the criminal.

NEWBURGH A police media briefing turned to bedlam Friday morning as Orange County District Attorney Frank Phillips and Newburgh Police Chief Michael Ferrara spoke about the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Michael Lembhard by police officers on Wednesday night. He had a warrant for second-degree manslaughter, the chief said.

What a Joke. Maybe had this Mother shown more concern for her son, when he was out banging and drugging, she wouldnt be burying him. Also, Newburgh city officials, show some stones and back your cops. Dont let thugs disguised as community activists like Omari Shakur (aka Ray Ray Bryant) push you into a special prosecutor. To see a Mayor of a city beg her citizens for "peace" is distgusting. How about saying, "Do you what you should and obey the law. Otherwise, we are going lock your asses up!"

It is very sad that a life was lost but at same time who runs from the cops !! And pulls a knife out on them also like sick if ghetto Newburgh said he was not just wanted for child support ...!! I think they could hav shot him in leg or communicated so multiple officers didn't shoot him at once but at same time wen your life is threatened your not thinking well let me shoot once like mentioned above these officers have families to go home to at the end if the day

Tom wrote:
If all this was over a warrant for unpaid child support, then why was he running away from the cops? His own family said he had problems with drugs and alcohol, yet, of course, as always in these case, he was a "good boy". A good boy who apparently did drugs, wasn't supporting his kids and pulled a knife on the cops.
And the brother's comment of "You 'f---ed with the Lembhards" says it all. They must think they're some sort of gang. Well, if you're going to act like a gang, you're going to get treated like a gang.
Well said !!!

Ny tax payer NO knife was found that's a lie to justify what they did straight up murder of a citizen by law enforcement !!!!!!! They had NO warrant to enter that house justice will b served for Michael rip !!!!!!
Mlpp2012 . You should study the NYS Penal Law.
(If you know what that is ). Police Officers do not need a warrant to enter a residence when a possible suspect is fleeing from them . I think You watch too much TV.

My thoughts EXACTLY trooperdave. Put all the cops inside....only got out on the street to take reports AFTER incidents happen. If these scumbags run....let them go!!!! Don't do anything!!!! Let them kill each other.....let the city burn.

If you truly are an "officer of the law" as you proclaim yourself to be above, then whatever job hired you, should be under federal investigation for employing an illiterate. If you paid any attention during your training at all, you know that the minimum safe distance from an assailant with a knife is 21 feet, so that eliminates the opportunity for a "drive stun". Secondly maybe none of the officers in the anti crime unit were carrying stun guns?

The level of force increases exponentally depending on the level of the threat. Once this skel lunged, he was done. Furthermore, his family already showed they are liars, he was not wanted for "non payment of child support", he was wanted on a host of charges including menacing with a knife. Ever stop to think that maybe these officers had dealt with him before, and may have known about his fondness for using blades? Simply put, this guy committed unintentional "suicide by cop".

Sussman is nothing but a leftover 60's loser, resigned to chasing ambulances because his political career didn't fly. Omari Shakur, yeah his son was killed by Newburgh PD a couple of years ago, because he was putting rounds downrange on Broadway, when the sidewalks were packed with innocent people. In that incident as well, according to the "community", the police were wrong. Good citizens of Newburgh, your city will remain a war zone until you have enough guts, to take on the destructive elements in your streets, and in your classrooms, and in your government. Newburgh PD, you guys hang in there, you deserve better.
