If it weren't for the illegal immigrants the kids would already be busy delivering newspapers and cutting lawns and shoveling snow and doing all the things that I did when I was a kid growing up on LI. Nobody had to spend a dime of tax money to keep me busy.
And if these wonderful kids are looking for something to keep themselves busy because they have nothing else to do (and apparently no schoolwork either) maybe they could consider VOLUNTEERING to help out at a hospital or deliver meals to the elderly and disabled. There are lots of worthwhile charities that can use a helping hand. If the kids need to be BRIBED to get involved in their communities then I guess that proves the kids ARE NOT involved in their communities.
So go ahead kids and prove me wrong...VOLUNTEER!!!!
Why are you hating so much? There are still some good kids out there willing to work hard. The article did not say these youth would be paid, so I am guessing that this will be done by volunteers under the direction of the artist, who will be paid.
Guess what? A lot more of your tax dollars are being spent by our leaders to come up with ways to make things easier for illegals. How about our tax dollars which are used to give them free services, housing and food? That's what you should be complaining about. This is a project that will invest in OUR youth, OUR citizens. And they will be chosen through an application process.
Yes, back in the day, we as kids worked hard to earn that dime, but we created todays lack of work ethic among the younger generation by allowing it to happen. They have what they have because we keep working so they can have what we didn't. So instead of bitching and complaining about it, how about you try to come up with a better plan.
For now I still think it's a great project for young artists to get involved in. All of the other problems cannot possibly be fixed with the $50,000 that is being spent on this mural. Finally something good is being proposed and there will always be people like you to find something to complain about.
Have a happy life. I, myself, will continue to look at the bright side of things!
