Ok ,school out and kids got nothing much to do in this town. They also drive me nuts lol. They have a city pool , well that kinda got boring. I been wonder if the city bring in a water park and yes I know it will cost way over millions to do so. But hey what the risk. Williamsburg Ky had one and the city took that risk and look at them now. Also it is to far to go there and look at Splash country and too thats to far. Why can't we have one here in town . It bring money in this town so why not????? Who eles like to have a water park here in town ????

There is, from what I understand, a state of the art animal shelter, which the only cost, so far, was donations and physical labor, sitting empty and the county is too cheap to support this much needed facility. You probably should count your blessings there is even a public pool.

Yes, it would be nice...and a lot of folks would like to have it.

But they KEY is, would enough of them like it enough to PAY the per-person entry fee required to keep something like that in business?

(those things are EXPENSIVE)

Maybe a half dozen part time summer jobs. Not worth the cost of the park.

And the above comments just prove my theroy tht the people of claiborne co dont want to grow or improve. It isnt lazy parents who would benefit it would give kids something to do in this town where theres nothing but drinking and drugs. As for the animal shelter how does that benefit the kids? What does that give them to do?

Where did you learn about "Mr. Scrooge?"

In a FICTIONAL Story. And that's just what the concept of a "scrooge" is....fiction. Someone being "stingy" does not impact YOU whatsoever.

JUST LIKE the Fantasy that rising TAXES results in economic gain. It does NOT.

A town, state, or country that tries to "tax itself to prosperity" is like someone sitting in a chair and pulling up on the sides, trying to lift it off the floor.

It simply does not work...it's economically illogical.

Nothing for the kids to do but drinking and drugs? Oh my, did I miss something, have they closed all of the churches? Of course you have to have a parent that is willing to guide you before you will find your way.
As far as the animal shelter hadn't given much thought to the association of the kids and the shelter until you mentioned it. I was pointing out the good people are too self absorbed to even help with the financial upkeep of the shelter. However, since you mentioned it, the shelter would be a great place for the kids. Have you ever been to a shelter? Those poor animals just need lots of love and care...the kids could volunteer to help with the cleaning, caring and training of these precious animals; it might even lead some of them to go into the wonderful field of Veterinary medicine and give the animals a fighting chance at being adopted into a loving home. Thank you for pointing out there really is more to do in this county besides drinking and drugs.

There's gardens that need tended, Hay that needs baled, Yards that need cutting, Shrubs that need trimmed, roadsides that need cleaned, cars that need washed, firewood that needs cut, tobacco that needs planted, corn that needs hoed. But todays youth could never do this as they think the world is one big play date!

I think you would be surprised at the people who would come to a water park in this area and respect it. As for the person who said "nothing to do but church" I agree going to church is the best thing any child could do but let's be honest how many churches hold events or have things kids can do 7 days a week?
Times are different now than just working on the farm kids need something to keep them busy and have fun at the same time.

Sure, a water park (or something like that) would be VERY popular.....

BUT, would the people who would just "love it"...."love it" enough to pay the per-person entry fee needed to just keep it running on a day to day basis?

Would all these people "show up" if it meant X dollars PER-PERSON every time they showed up?

That's the issue.

If they drive to Barbourville or Williamsburg why wouldnt they pay the same price to stay in town? People pay every day and drive as much as an hour or more as long as our prices are competitive why shouldnt we have one?
