new symrna is the worlds shark attack capital for the last 20 years. would never go there. Between the rednecks and the sharks you are lucky to get out alive.

If I die of a Shark attack. I dont want anyone to say it was mistaken identity. If I die because I was lunch for a shark -then state it.

I wouldn't go to the Bert "Fish" Hospital after being bit by a shark.

I surf and sharks are endemic to the area, most won't bite or are else too small to inflict serious wounds. Sometimes, though, one is big enough to chomp on down. Personally, I worry more about gators while biking in Gainesville near creeks and Lake Alice though.

Said it before, I'll say it again.

If you want to get bitten by a shark, get in the water between New Smyrna and north to Daytona. Best spot: Ponce Inlet.

Then ya getcha azz bit yo.

The shark probably got high and forgot what he was doing...

It's always been feeding time on surfers at the Jetty...

I'd be interested to know hwat time this occurred. Usually it's worse after around 4ish in the afternoon when they follow the schools of Blues in closer to shore..

Shhhh, don't tell the northern tourists.. It's the only way we can get rid of some of them. In fact, we should encourage them to take late afternoon swims..

It's called "thinning".

Wow they should have a story "Man gets into car wreck while driving a car."

I surfed NSB inlet at least 1000 times and never was attacked by a shark.

I'm not a surfer, but I have personally known two shark bite victims. One was bitten twice over the years. The other went down with the Ranger IV off the Carolinas in the late '70s. A shark may well have been his end.

But you are right. The odds are in the surfer's favor. I've seen many sharks while body surfing and not worried about it. There were so many other people in the water, I figured one of them would get bitten first.

Word. I have never been bitten either. Dogs have bitten me though walking through the freakin' park. And I still love dogs too. It's life: not something to be hysterical over. There's sharks, we surf. This isn't some amazing news.

Please spread the news to New Yorkers so that they will stay in their liberal paradise and not ruin this state anymore.

I'll probably be out past the break Sunday morning. I usually go to the north side of the jetties but I have a couple of shark rigs that are just itching to get wet. Smoked shark makes great fish dip.
