i found out a couple of days ago that my 11 year old sons bus driver has been texting him for almost 2 weeks. my son took his cell to school(without my knowledge of course) and she was sending him text messages asking how his day was goin...etc. there was nothing sexual in them but i still foind it inappropriate. how do i know it wasnt leading to that?? you hear of these teachers befriending students and then it ends up in a sexual affair. i heard of a librarian in new york who was doing same stuff....completely innocent and then 3 months later, kidnapped that child. i was told that i was over reacting by the principal. do you all think i am over reacting? i would really appreciate opinions on this

You are definatley NOT over reacting. I would be concerned too. It is to easy for these kind of things happening. I live in North Texas (obviously) and in the past few years we have had many children abducted. Take the Amber Hagerman case, that we all got the Amber Alert from, she ws from Arlington, Tx not far fromwhere I live now. My ex-boyfriends daughter was school friends with Opal Jennings who was abducted from her front yard in a small community. This kind of conduct is inappropriate and should be stopped immediately. Stick to your guns and keep your eyes open.

McF,

You were definitely NOT over reacting. I think the principal's response was definitely inappropriate. It seems odd that the principal would even allow text messages/cell phone use at school to begin with.

Have you contacted the bus driver directly? If not, you need to find out WHY she was sending him text messages.

If you are not completely satisified after talking with the bus driver, contact the Transportation Director at your local school board.

Then, if you aren't satisfied, go directly to the Superintendant of your school board...then to your school board member...then, last, but not least, to the Transportation Department of the Louisiana Department of Education.

You are completely in your rights to be suspicous. If the driver cannot provide you with a reasonable explanation as to why she was texting your minor son, you need to pursue the matter until someone corrects her....trust me, text messaging students riding your bus is NOT NORMAL.

McFarland...you under reacted. If the principal didn't satisfy you with his/her answer, go to school board office...follow the chain of command stated correctly by hmmmmmmmmmmm. It is NOT normal. You should be concerned. Do it on Monday. It is totally INAPPROPRIATE.

I don't think that in this you can Overreact! This is your child and the bus driver is supposed to be an adult!! It appears to me that the principle is NOT the brightest star in the galaxy! the bus driver AND the principle should be reported to the school board, you don't know what type of sicko the bus driver is. And for the principle, we he's a sicko too!!

If your daughter is romantically intersted in a friggen bus driver, yes, I would be very concerned. In my experience, school bus drivers are typically either fat old black men, or chain smoking old women with big hair that seriously need to consider a new deoderant. :)

Get a Grip is absolutely correct....McF, the more I think about this, the more upset I get. Don't waste time talking to the bus driver. She can't possibly give you a good enough excuse warranting why she has been text messaging your child...11 year old son at that!

McF, if this is your first child to reach the age of 11, please be aware that kids between 10 and 15 normally are going through dramatic changes as they enter and go through puberty. At your son's age, it would be quite easy for an adult to lead him where he shouldn't go. Kids at his age are too old to be with the younger ones and not old enough to fit in with the older kids....it's an awkward time in their life.

Don't let this woman have a chance to get too close to your son. If it were me, I'd be at your school board office Monday morning as soon as they open!

That bus driver was going to molest that kid sooner or later. I wonder who else the bus driver is texting. Somebody's kid is going to get some unwanted 'attention'. Call that bus driver out, make that perv leave the parish. Out them out them out them.

It really don't matter who she's on the fone with while driving...the fact that she is ON the fone while driving with kids on board is a big safety issue

my point to the principal was....what does she possibly have to talk to an 11 year old kid about during school hours???? what is that important?? what does she have in common with him??? NOTHING!!!! i am gonna go to school board monday and if i dont like what i hear...i may just have to go and introduce her to thelma and louise.....fist 1 and fist 2...i aint scared...i am sure i can find someone to bail me outta jail...lol...maybe you all can take a donation...hehe

McF,

When you go to the school board office Monday, I would definitely advise you to bring in a written complaint/statement signed and dated by you. The complaint must remain a part of the driver's personnel file until the driver can show that the complaint is unfounded. School Boards all over have a way of sweeping things under the rug, but with a written complaint, the sweeping becomes hard to do.

In your complaint, also include what you have been told about her being on the phone constantly during her route. I cannot stress to you how dangerous that situation is.

Although I know you jest about the thelma and louise thing, keep your composure...be nice, yet firm and assertive at the school board office. Take the next step if the situation is not immediately addressed.
