New Roads lost another tradition with the death of Dean Gauthier. Dean, as us older kids called him, ran the Dairy Joy in New Roads from its beginning in the early 1950's well into the 80's. He always had a happy smile for us kids. Dean's Dairy joy was our "Happy Days". We will miss him and he can NEVER be replaced.

The hamburgers were great, the chili bun with onions were popular also. Best malts, fresh cut fries were a little greasy, but who cares, they were great too.

All the food was good. Those fries really were fresh sliced from red potatos right out of the sack. He'd wash em ahead of time then run em through that hand press slicer and fry em mostly in hog lard. They were the best I ever ate, as long as they were hot!

Great burgers and malts--not shakes like nowadays--with real malt flavoring.

I'd ride my bike there with a pocket full of change half way across town to get a burger and fries .
