The deputy retired with a pension because he was vested with 13 yrs service, and would'nt work rotating shift at the jail.

He just took office the first of July.. You think for a second he's worried about you not voting for him. He was operating within the law, bottom line! I agree, he had poor choices of words in his interview. Mike is a good Sheriff and a good man, he has done a lot for the people of WBR and contributed much time and money to help everyone having a fund raiser or a celibration. If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at the legislature for the laws on the books now, call your senator and rep. and tell them you want the law changed. You people always want a change, new blood, be careful what you wish for because you more than likely will get what you do not want and when you realize it, it is too late!

Pure bullcrap!! If it was a loved one of yours you wouldn't be talking that garbage. Just last week a guy received 10 years for a drunk driving death, but here in PC money rules. If one of the dead girls parents pumped one in her skull while she was out walking the streets free, they would rott in prison

Anyone with more of a legal understanding than myself, could anything be done under the Whistleblower Act? Does it only protect whistleblowers who report something in federal agencies or is there anything that can be done on a local level? This man outright said on television that he was going to punish a snitch for letting the public know what was happening in this situation.

They said he is from New Roads. If his demotion has caused a pay-cut for him, I think the people of this town should have a fundraiser to honor him for doing his job.

Well it wasn't one of mine or yours, thank God. It has nothing to do with who has money or not, it's about the parametors of the law. In other words what the law allows. Like I said call your Rep. or Senator, let them know you want the law changed. You can continue to bump your self rightous gums all day, nothing is going to change what has already happened and nothing is going to change until the law changes!!!

To Hmmm,

No attorney either, but I've always heard a Sheriff is the only employer in the State of Louisiana who can hire and fire at will. He does not have to have a reason for firing any employee. It's a shame that men and women protecting us while putting their lives on the line always have that scenario hanging over their heads. Louisiana politics....what else can be said!!??

Louisiana is a "Right to Work" state. You cannot be forced by fellow employees to join a Union, and any employer can hire and fire "at will."

Of course, you as an employee may file for unemployment benefits upon firing. You are entitled to due process within that system, and the employer has a certain number of days after you are fired to notify you of your rights. The employer is within their rights to petition to deny you those unemployment benefits.
