I have a job. In order to get this job, I had to pass a drug test, and am subject to random drug
testing. I pay taxes from this job that is used to
give government assistance to people who do not
have to pass a drug test. I have a problem with this. The welfare system could save BILLIONS
if they ONLY gave assistance to people that pass
monthly drug test. NO pee , No check !!!
I feel that ALL elected officials that spend our
tax dollars , should be tested also.

Generally, drug testing is an insurance requirement. It doesn't have anything to do with morality. If you don't like it, get a different job.

Your savings number assumes that everyone that receives assistance is on drugs, which is not correct.

I like u test for employment. Also subject to random. Have been " randomed" as much as 4x n 4wks. They must have thought
random was my first name. I pay a LOT of taxes. Ur idea is a good one but the ACLU would jump on that so fast ur head would spin. Not to mention scores of others. They would defend ur dope smokin priveleges for such people. It would be very simple, very effective. Now my thoughts on this would take all day. I'm sure others can offer solutions, especially on solving the welfare problem.

V-Andy's comment is correct. Let us not assume everyone on assistance is on drugs!! Assistance was meant to be temparory not a lifestyle!

Testing would cost a lot of money, as well.

Also, drug testing has become much more than an insurance requirement. Almost all high paying and craftsman jobs require it if not self-employed. I do think ALL law enforcement representitives should be required to have one and nothing keeps a person "cleaner" than that "ole random"!

V/andy, u make the statement that drugs" are not a moral issue". That is like saying sex with minors is not a moral issue. Do u approve of drug use say, in the privacy of ones home?

A 5 panel, drug test kit cost $ 1.41.( bought in volume )
I do not assume that all people on Gov. aid , are on drugs.
And I love my job, and dont have a problem with the drug testing
policy.

Vigilandy,
Would you loan someone $ 25,000.00 for a new
car without getting a " Credit Score " ?
A credit check cost $20 -$30 and is cheap insurance , that you will repay the loan.
If someone is on Gov. Assistance and drugs, they will never get off their behind and look for a job.

I too, luv my job "clean". I also like knowing the people I work with are drug free. The work itself is dangerous enough. There is no substitute for alertness. "BYBK". Be your brother's keeper!!

The reason companies test is not because of a moral duty. They do it because it helps on insurance rates.

This has nothing to do with what I believe.

The topic is " drug testing for people on gov.
assistance & elected officials ".
The US Postal Service has no drug testing policy.
The US Post Office is BILLIONS in debt. Go figure.

"clean", Rural carriers and others in the USPS are almost immune to dismissal. They have a very strong union backing them. I may be wrong but they are like a separate entity. Not really part of the fed. Anyone, please clarify or correct me. Your point is valid. I agree, they too should have mandatory testing. U want to limit this thing-the discussion-how can u when those responsible for the dynamics of these two gov entities have no checks. Do your reps and senators undergo drug testing? No. Do the appointed heads undergo drug testing? No. Many more gov officials, too. I know you're already aware of the situation. So I'm kinda lookin too. Tell me, where do we start?
