I had to go to pay bills in town yesterday and I noticed something that makes me question where our loyalties lie. Several employees of our public agencies, Police Jury, School Board, Sheriff, etc.... are buying their vehicles out of parish. Maggio's and New Roads Motor Co. pay a great deal of taxes here and to spend those tax dollars out of parish just doesn't make sense to me. The businesses here in the parish support us in many different ways, donations to sick people, schools, advertizements, Mardi Gras, etc.. And what do we do? We go out of parish to spend our money with other businesses that don't pay any sales or property taxes in Pointe Coupee Parish. What a shame!

What a shame that we only have Ford and GM products to choose from in Pointe Coupee! Enough said.

The reason that the public offices buy cars from out of town, is that they have to be bought on state contract. No one from here is on the state contract list. Get your facts straight before you make statements. I'm sure they would love to buy local, but can't.

I'm talking about public employees buying their personal vehicles from out of town!

The local offices buy everything from out of town. They have a provision to buy local, but choose not to exercise it. They buy office supplies, repair parts, generators, cellphones, office equipment.....all from out of town. It's public record. You can ask for the info. Notice the Pointe Coupee Banner never runs stories like that? Because it depends on the revenue from postings for legal notices from the local government to stay in business. Don't expect any "hard news" or "investigative reporting" from there. lol

I know a lot of people who have tried to buy cars here, but they just won't give the people who live here a deal. Have had friends from out of town come here and get great deals that we can not get. Go figure that one out??? Seems like they would want the local business.

We tried to buy local vehicles for a business and the sales rep. refused to bring in the vehicles requested and repeatedly offered vehicles that were not requested and wasted our time.We tried to buy local out of loyalty but were frustrated by the lack of fulfilling our specific request and then went to the same local owned dealership in another parish and got what we needed. We could not understand why we were refused locally and were sold by the same owner our request in another parish. After having repair work done by the first on your list,we would never buy a vehicle from them as a result of their poor service and change in their estimate after repair was done (suprise it was much higher than the original quote).Sometimes a poor track record over the years reflects people going elsewhere for repairs and purchases. There was a transmission repair place that pulled our engine (without our permission)when we needed a simple stater and we couldN''t figure out why this was done except to make him more money. He thought dealing with a women would allow this fraud and seemed to prey on womens lack of knowledge and could hold them hostage over the debt.Maybe this has changed since then but once burned ,why try again, good service and solid quotes will bring return business, lesson learned.

Why would you want to buy from here when there is always a back agenda to make more money themselves with high prices!! You go out of town because there prices are cheaper and better qualify and better credit financing options. No one will continue to buy here if this little town puts tags that even big cities don't carry!! You want more business from your residents then give them prices you can compete with. Everything here is PERSONAL who knows who and what you do but elsewhere its not about all of that. Also give a better selection of new cars as well as used. PERSONALLY I went to new roads motor and maggio seeking my desired impala HOWEVER you sale Chevy's without any new impala's who does this??? NO WHERE ok soooo Gerry Lane here I come n they for the sale for a brand new 2004 impala this was in 2003, now yet again I went to the local dealer to buy another vehicle a dodge this time so ok I see you carry Ram's I'm seeking a Challenger.....NO CHALLENGERS smdh ok soooo Salsbury dodge received the sale for the 2013 Challenger. The only thing NEW they carry are certain model trucks and SUV'S really no thank you now if they can fix that then maybe they will see more loyalty!!! FYI they are correct about the state contracts why spend more money getting a contract here when they can receive a better deal elsewhere!

I'm not doubting you, but out of curiousity, what provision is that?...Just wondering where it's found and whether it's enforceable.

I can agree with the provision, most parish entities have a provision in their standards of participation especially if they are apart of certain findings or grants to where they are obligated to contract "in parish" however if the same product can be offered from an outside agency at a lower contractual price there must be an administrative override by the CFO and Board of Directors. May need to check the STP'S or Bi-Laws hope it sheds some light for you.
