New River Road Curves
Gearhead 49

During past discussions in local newspaper forums regarding the county modifying the section of New River road that contains numerous S curves, there was opposition voiced that this would ruin the astetic appeal of the road. Are you kidding me? I have lived in the new river area for over thirty years and have witnessed numerous fatal and serious none fatal wrecks due this this stretch of road. The most recent being a single vechicle motorcycle accident on thanksgiving day. This poor guy spent his holiday in the hospital instead of with his family. But so what, we have astetic appeal! Maricopa County listen up, tear that road out and straighten it! What about the numerous school buses that utilize NRR? Will one of them be next. Think about it,I do, my kid rides on one.

I agree with gearhead. Those curves are deceptively dangerous. What is so appealing about it that safety comes second?Just take a look at the memorials along the side of the road there.David
