They conveniently leave out the fact that in WI, ANY perceptible amount in your blood leaves you open to being charged with DUI. One needn't be "high" behind the wheel to find themselves in a heap of trouble. Still wondering why their prisons have twice the number of inmates as MN??

Did anyone ever say that Austin was under the influence??? NO! Why is it that people can intentionally murder people and get off in less time. He should do some time but he is getting more time than people that go out and kill others.

He is a non remourseful hard partying druggie. I used to live a few doors down from him when this happened and he used to have parties just a week after he killed these two people. He needs time not excuses and people like you pro pot petruli wearing dreadlocked white Edina excuse making liberals. Go blog in your moms basement your 40 get a job. This kid was under drug suspision even before the accident. They used to stake out his house before as there were dealers coming alll hours. One more unrepentive scumbag off the street. They should put his mother in the joint to as she was there when most of the underage parties went on. Ask them how that raid on his home went last summer during Country Slam week> That was after the accident. They probably combined /plead/dropped those charges so thats why he is getting 8 years.

You have no idea what you are talking about regarding this young man's mother. I am a personal friend and I want you to know that she is an intelligent, hard-working, single mother that did the very best she could. I wish people would not speak so confidently when they have not walked the walk. We should be careful because children are not born to us with instructions! I only pray and hope that if you have children that you do not go through the same pain-staking type of ordeals and be judged so impulsively by others who do not have a real clue as to who you are! Austin's mom is not a druggy nor does she sell drugs! She loves her sons more than herself and she would give the shirt off her back for anyone. Shame on you for your judgement of a great woman that you have no idea what she has been, will be and is going through along with the other families of this tragedy. The death of those two children, is something she lives with everyday and it is truly horrific and heartwrenching for all involved. My sympathies along with hers go out to the families of the deceased each and everyday! Please choose your tongue and words more carefully. Also, if I must clarify--the kids at Country Jam were not drinking at her house. Austin blew a 00 on his breath test that night!

Big Mamma BS I saw the cops pour out beer after beer in the yard that night. Were you there?? There was always drugs at that house. The next morning after that raid She was walking to the mailbox in her bikini with a drink in her hand at 11 am. Do not cover for her. I am sure she tried but those kids were out of control living in her home. I freggin lived two houses down and there is a long list of complaints and police reports about that house. The sheriff used to stop by all the time even before the accident. Maybe not her kids but the filth he hung around with. The time for excuses is over take the blame accept the conswequences. He killed two people because he was reckeless. She has some blame but where is the loser of a father as well??

Hey Joe Q, I know this family well and you should get your facts straight you idoit!! The bottom line is, who sentences an 18 year old to prison for 8 years for a car accident? This was an unintentional accident! I think the judge was either high on meth again or else he pannicked when he saw a whole courtroom full of blacks! You would have thought this was a drive by shooting! He used this kid as an example! What a pathetic end to a tragic accident!

Well said BAS,
This kid is serving more time for an accident than the scum who murdered Sgt. Joe Bergeron in Maplewood last sat. That POS only served 2 years in prison for armed robbery and shooting his accomplice in the stomach 3 times!! He was let out on conditional release, supposed to be on house arrest but was never seen again by law enforcement until last Sat. Nice, the justice systems are a little out of balance if you ask me. This kid was obviously stupid to get high and drive his car at such a speed, but a least he is pleading guilty and taking responsiblity for his actions. Eight years seems a bit harsh if you ask me. This could have happened to so many I know when we were young and believed we were invincable.

You deny there was a party there after the accident and tons of underage kids drinking beerr that night? You deney that was not the first party after that punk killed two people? Eight years is right on target with the national sentenceing. Also this kid took a plea deal so 8 years was agreed upon. The mope agreed to this plea deal so blame him for the 8 years. He will come out a harden thug and a real good member of society I am sure. I hope he uses this time to be a better person and stays off drugs. Oh what is this gallery filled with blacks debate???? Are you implying that the judge was intimidated by a bunch of blacks? Were one of the victims black? If so what was this gret upstanding citizen doing hanging out with people like that then? I thought he was such and angel.

"people like you pro pot petruli wearing dreadlocked white Edina excuse making liberals."

That was not a complete sentence.

And don't lump all pot smokers together, prick. People from all walks of life smoke -- cops, lawyers, law makers, and criminals alike.

If you know the family so well then you'd know that Austin drove like an absolute moron. I, too, lived a few doors down from him in Somerset and Joe Q isn't lying about the police visits and parties. His mom may have tried, but when she gets busted for fighting with the cops and allowing underage drinking at her house, how can you not expect people to be angry? I can't tell you how many times neighbors called the cops or yelled at him for his speeding through our development. I shudder to think that his idiot actions could have killed one of my kids or one of the neighbors kids because he was too stoned, too high, or too selfish to realize the potential consequences of his actions. Considering the trouble he's been in before, I don't know how you can honestly say that this was an "unintentional" accident. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the choices he made could have horrendous consequences. And, unfortunately, there were horrendous consequences. I can only hope that he learns from this and makes something good of himself when his in prison and after he gets out.

Re: Actually our family is about half white, So "courtroom full of blacks" doesn't fly As well as Alan's family? They're black too I suppose? If you would have been at the sentencing, and actually heard what this kid had to say, & new the numerous numerous previous charges, and that he was high while driving, This kid didn't have an "accident", he broke the law. Negligence. He was COMPLETELY aware of what he was doing. Accidents are defined as - a specific, unidentifiable, unexpected, unusual and unintended external action which occurs in a particular time and place, with no apparent and deliberate cause but with marked effects. Your telling me that going 30 miles over the speed limit while high on drugs is cause for an "unexpected" & "unintended" situation? No, your not.
