obnoxiously rude. Only the few businesses benefit
and the rest of us suffer. Now Im not try to attack
ALL tubers but.... OMG the one's Ive come across
are obnoxious. I turn away most because even the locals don't want to listen to the loud stupidity
spewing from their drunken mouths. For all you that
know who Im talking about... please find a different river to pollute. Just my opionion!!

Bummer. Iíve been going for the last 10 years. Any of you know what the better place would be..FloteRite, Rivers Edge or Apple River Hideaway? Looking for the best place for a weekend in July, would like a party atmosphere.
well there all great i think river's edge is a little cheaper and a little smaller than flote rite. hide away is the most expensive and its right on the river. I like to go to river's edge there more personal i feel.

Somerset has changed. The main highway no longer goes through the town. Somerset Campground closed for many reasons. The land has gotten extremly valuable. To run a place like that is a nightmare.Too many inconsiderate people. It can still be fun to go there, just don't expect much. The campgrounds are a joke and the people that run them have no concern for your welfare.Keep an eye on your friends or family. It can be a very dangerous place to be.

What do you mean a very dangerous place? I am planning on bringing my children is there something I should know about?

Everywhere I look I see no personal tubes allowed (Float-Rite and Hideaway have it in big bold letters on their websites)

I'm wondering what people who want to bring their own tubes do or what the locals do for tubing? Surely there has to be an exit point somewhere on the river that the public can use. What about Village Park?

The Apple River camp ground in Somerset, WI has been sold and has reopened this Spring as the Apple River Family Campground.
After the deaths of the owner's son, and eventually, the owner, the campground closed after many years of operation.
It is now owned by the same people that own the Star Prairie Trout Farm in Star Prairie, WI.

Get serious. Nobody would have ever heard of somerset Wisconsin if it weren't for the Apple River. 30 years after going there I still recall the good times, wild parties, and value of the place.

Somerset would have shriveled up long ago had it not been for the amazing tubing rides that bring thousands of people and millions of dollars to your stupid, shit-hole town.

There is a place in Iowa that is 15 mins or so from DM called Raccoon River Excursions that has camping and tubing. They have a bar and restaurant on the same land so it's pretty pimp. http://raccoonriverexcursions.com/ is their website. It's a private campgrounds so they don't care if you party.

Went to apple river this last weekend. Not a good place to bring your kids unless you don't mind them seeing boobs while u are floating down the river. Also do not camp at the hideaway if u plan on getting any sleep. Otherwise alot of fun and u would definitely recommend it to the age appropriate.

The last time I had been on the Apple River tubing was 30yrs ago. My mom never took us back after how badly it was "infected" w/drunk kids, nudity, and litter up and down the river. I had certificate's from Float Rite last year and took my family. It was a wonderful time and we were almost literally the ONLY people there. This year I had certificate's from Apple River Hideaway (never saw "Family" mentioned anywhere) and was dismayed to see all the drunks were still there. This time add in the pot being smoked openly. These are not things we subject our kids to and I was not happy at all. Then add in more drunks and fireworks. A rather large group of drunks thought it funny to toss "M-80's" along the banks to try and scare the other tubers, however, it backfired horribly. At the end, they were going to toss one out to scare the campers along the banks, it "slipped" and severely injured the idiot doing it. Those stupid kids were so drunk, they didn't realize for several minutes how severe the injuries were and then FINALLY attempt to get him ashore and get help. They literally blew a tube w/either a large speaker or their cooler OUT of the water as well. We still have certificates we have to use by the end of the season, and at this point, I'll be giving them away. Not a suitable environment for families at all. Hugely disappointing.

NO , the Apple River is not closed. Tubing I still going very strong The best place to go or camping and tubing is Float Rite ark It is a very large campground and it offers the longest ride on the river. They bus you to the top and you float back to your campsite. It is a great place to party as it has a bar on the grounds wit live music on weekends. They have good security that lets you party and have a good time. They also host numerous concerts throughout the summer. I highly recommend it as the pace to go. I live in Somerset, so you can take my word for it.

Try "Family" camping at the Apple River Family Campground, where most things are kid appropriate. Not much you can do about the view on the river, but the place is set up for "kids" to have fun and families to have great weekends camping!!
